: redline for sr20's
sr20ser1997 03-31-2002, 12:32 PM what is the actual redline for basically stock sr20's.. my 97 shows a redline of 7100 while my friends 92 shows a redline of 7500.. does anyone know the actuall redline/ is there any benefits to revving this high.. i usuall shift at 6500 or so.. thanks for all your info..

The Rev should be the same.. the b13 is the same engine. .Different in some ways.. IE high port and low port.
I Too was trippin when I saw my boys b13 with 7500 redline. I think it's just cosmitic. He told he it redlines at 7200, my b14 is the same.
Try Shifting before rev limiter kick in... you'll see why we do this.
mpg9999 03-31-2002, 01:01 PM The redline on b13's is 7500, and I believe the limiter is at 7700, which is I think what a stock sr20 can safely rev to befor things like valve float start to happen. you would probably benifit from shifting higher then 6500.
bl200sx 03-31-2002, 01:04 PM The reason why the redline is lower on the newer se-r, is nissan needed to get the emission down on the newer cars to pass the EPA emission test, less rpm's less emission.

Fat shit... I thought that was all looks.. My boys cant go past 7200 with out the rev limiter kicking his ass.. i should let him know about this... kooo learned something new tday!
playatx99 03-31-2002, 01:38 PM yeah i can pull close to 8k on the tach(its not too accurate) before the limiter hits.... no power to speak of over 7k though with stock cams
SmoothDaddyFig 03-31-2002, 01:46 PM The B13 have a 7,500 redline.
I used to hit it all damn day when I switched from a Honda to a Nissan. I wasnt used to the quick revs of my SR20 compared to my D16 CRX Si.
The crazy thing is having a JWT ECU and watching the B14s go all the way to 7,800 RPMs. SCHWEEEEETT!!!!!!!
As for benefits I guess it varies. My car makes 139hp at 5,700 RPMs. I started to shift around 6,700 rpms to see if I can keep the RPMs at the highest point of HP. Maybe someone here can explain if what Im doing makes any sense.
I still love going to redline though just to show my car whos the boss. :D
sr20ser1997, have you driven a B13 yet?

no i have not had the opportunity to drive a b13 yet
Storm88000 03-31-2002, 02:15 PM B13's cut at 7500.
B14's cut at 7100.

Damn, SE-R brother. I need to hook you up.
You should have asked at the meet last Wednesday.
If I see you at a light we'll switch cars.;)
Stirpicult 03-31-2002, 08:29 PM redline and fuel is at 7500 on the classics...it says 7700-7800 on most cars because the factory tach is shit. it can be revved to about 8k (this is about where valve float and the like occur) with a jwt ecu though most of the time the rev limiter as set at 7800 (which will look like 8k on a stock tach)
the 200sx fuel cut and redline is at 7100 for emission purposes and i have no clue what the stock tach says because i have never been in a stock one before. an ecu upgrade wil do to it the same thing it would for a classic.
revving this high does zero unless you are making power up here, which you wont be with a stock engine, but the sr20de makes peak hp stock at around 6700, so you should be shifting a little after that ((6900-7100 i would guess unless you just like the sound of 7500 on a stock motor, which i do)
Parson 03-31-2002, 11:00 PM Hey Stripticult! I notice you're in the B'burg area. You should autocross 'round here. Are you a student or resident? Drop me a line: jberg@realcavers.dhs.org. There aren't enough sr20's around here!
Xsanity 04-03-2002, 07:09 AM course the b15's redline is at a measly 6750....
and the fuel cut is at 6800(as far as my stock tach tells me)....
maybe because of the roller-rocker motor?
Stirpicult 04-03-2002, 11:11 AM i dont think it would be the roller rockers. i think it may be valve springs or just nissans desire to keep the emissions down. roller rockers should lower the amount of energy lost through the system and i would think allow it to rev higher (but i am a history major with limited physics knowledge)

rev quicker and more efficeint is what the roller rockers are meant to do. . the roller rocker system on the B15 seems to have quick rev response naturally. hope fully one day some company like jun or nismo makes a set of beefier springs for My sr20de w/RR system. the valve springs i agree (and have also been told) are the weekest link to letting the engine rev past 7000 rpms.
