hi fellow texans

i went to get my inspection for my shitvic done today and the inspector failed me because of my intake does not have a "certificate number" stamped on it.

i asked him if he's april fooling with me. he said no.

he said just recently texas has a law that states the intake must be certified by the txdot if it's aftermarket. i either put the stock intake back on or find some paper that shows it's certified by txdot.

i don't have the stock intake anymore!

here's a little sr20de content:
my sentra will fail too! my sentra intake is JUST AS GHETTO!

anyone hear about this law? i wonder if that "clean air act" and driving 55mph has anything to do with it.

worst april fool's joke EVER!

this sounds like B.S. to me. this ain't california! when did this "law" get passed? i know in DFW we have some new stuff coming out dyno testing, but there was no mention of DOT certified parts. i would borrow a freinds intake. there are so many civic guys out there I'm sure you can find one. or just go to an aftermarket shop and ask if they have one.
Man this sucks!

WTF!! i say you go ask another inspection place if that is true.

And your in Sugarland, isnt that a different county than Harris so wouldnt it be easyer to pass?

Well actually it is real... Cause I went to get my car inspected a while back, which ive told this story. but anyways... Its basically called an open-element filter. Which is legal, but illegel for inspection. Not really sure why, but I had to go and put my stock airbox on real quick. Then I passed, so... try again!

thats weird, my car passed Dallas County inspection like 2 weeks ago with an open element cone filter on my stock intake tube...... they put it on the dyno and everything, even though it doesnt count till may or whatever

hey Chuck,
I thought yours was not passing due to the tire?
Mine passed last month with cold air intake, headers, cat back....
all visible. I think you guys are getting dupped!
anyways, if there is a new law just get a factory one and keep it in your garage. it doesn't take long to change a filter.;)

yesterday the inspector at my trusty gas station ifor inspection wasn't there, i went to another place and they failed me due to my ghetto intake. so today i went back to the trusty shop and VIOLA! i passed.

the inspector said there's really no such law unless your intake is missing a filter element or making your car idle rough or higher than normal. he said the inspector who failed me possibly trying to get me to pay more so he can pass me "illegally".

it feels good to drive on the road without watching out for cops.

I've actually heard the same thing from a friend of mine who drives a Maxima. He has a 3" cone filter on it and they wouldn't pass him. Thankfully swapping out air intakes isn't a huge chore.
BTW, if anyone is due up for inspection might consider having their vehicles inspected while it is still April. Tejas is tightening up the emissions and is increasing the cost of inspection (nearly doubling!)

The jerk at that inspection station was lying through his teeth. In my never ending search of an empty inspection station, I asked someone at each station if that were true, and they all said that the filter will pass regardless. And to add fuel to my fire, my car passed the test tonite with the filter....

I inspected cars for 3 years... open element air filters are the only ones that won't pass.....
