Hey, Jon3k just posted something about this... what do you guys think?

I was thinking of mounting my bottle behind my seat but thought that might not be a good idea. I was going to do this so that I could reach around and turn it on and off at will but if this opener is a good idea, hell, I'll do it instead!

let me just say, i love my opener :) it saves me the trouble of doing it manually, not to mention its just plain cool ;)

but theres nothing wrong with doing it manually. most people with hatchbacks do that, i just don't know where you'd mount the bottle, as the valve should point towards the front of the vehicle, and the base of the bottle should point towards the back.

how much did it cost for the opener?

And how does it work? The Zex one looks like a motor/gearhead that actually turns the knob on the bottle. The NOS systems one just looks like another solenoid at the bottle itself.

Are they both really mechanical? Seems this would be the safest type.

IIRC, the ZEX bottle opener will only work with ZEX and ZEX style valves, and will not work with NOS brand bottles. The Zex opener actually mechanically turns the valve on and off(from what i've read).

The NOS brand opener is actaully a solenoid that stays open or shut, when you use momentary switch. It's attached between the nitrous feed line and the bottleneck opening. Flip switch, solenoid stays open, flip switch the other way and solenoid stays shut. You still have to manually shut the valve if you don't use it. Some people complain of leaks, usually due to improper installs. Really simple install. Only thing is, you have to remove the opener when getting refills:mad:

Check E-Bay and other classifieds, you can get used openers for cheaper.

U actually remove the handle from the bottle, and install the motor on top of the bottle. works great, very convenient. i don't have my pressure guage hooked up, so right now, i just open it, and tap the purge. i've only had to open it like once or twice, as opposed to opening it every time i get in the car "just in case" :)

I'd say go with an NXpress one. It's more "mechanical" in that it actually opens and closes the bottle. With the NOS brand one you just have another solenoid to worry about. If I was staying NOS i'd get one as a safety precaution, in case the main solenoid sticks open.
