This has happened to almost every forum member I know that own Spec clutches. Including myself, twice. I love the pressure plate feel, so I'm keeping it. Sorry for the bad news, but I wonder when people are going to stop running Spec clutches.

the same thing (springs popping out) happened to my SE disc with the same mods as you, with a JWT PP. My PP grabs too hard for some reason :eek2:

well i made it home on the clutchnet/spec combo. works good. grabs the same as the spec did. alost less t/o bearing noise also. ripps em off through 2nd. im loving it again. and to top it off my black car(the 98 with the hot chick on the hood) blew out 3rd and 4th last night. im not even gonna mess with putting another ga tranny in it..i might as well cut the ve build short and put it in.

the man up above hates me.......for the last 2 days my "brake" light has been on. almost like the ebrake is set..but it wasnt i didnt think anything of it untill my car wouldnt rev past 5k, and the radio was going in and out. turns out my alternator took a shit also. so 87 bucks later and fat ass hookup with a bosch 90 amp, thats on. to add to the shit i messed up the spedo cable some how.

so in about 24 hours i managed to tear up :
1-ga16 manual tranny
1 spec 3
1 alternator.
1 spedo cable

whats next?

How come no one likes using ACT clutches?? SPEC really has some QC issues...

How come no one likes using ACT clutches?? SPEC really has some QC issues...

There are many threads about failed spec, clutchnet, and JWT clutches. Probably more spec failures, then JWT, and not a whole lot of issues with clutchnet. For clutchnet I have heard they can be stiff/rough, and have been known to eat/tear/destroy cables or shear spines.

IMHO it should be about the same for all clutches, some people will have failures, and it may even be their fault and not a bad clutch necessarily.

ACT only issue maybe is their extreme PP, it is extreme and some can't handle the pedal feel.

I love my ACT clutch, and I don't think it's going to bust either. All stamped made in USA:biggthump

ACT street disc and HD PP for the win

ok guys talked to spec and they hooked me up. they also provided me some good info to what might be causing all our problems with sprung clutch disks. here is a paragraph from the email:

Our disks are over-engineered in the area where your disk has had the springs work loose. The ONLY time we ever see the situation you have is when there's input-shaft play. They simply will not work loose like that under power, drag-racing, or any extreme driving unless there’s input-shaft mis-alignment. This can be due to 1)bad pilot bearing, 2)bad input bearing in transmission, or 3)loose transmission bolts.

Our setup is made in-house, unlike the competition who use stock disks and put a different material on them. We have done extensive testing and have made these for nearly 15 years. The problem is not the disk

they are gonna fix it for me also..good guys to deal with.

this can also help everyone else here thats having problems. my shop "ips motorsports" buy/use a crap load of spec everyyear and havent had one problem yet..espically in some 300zs with 5-6-700 hp at the wheels.

thanks spec.
