Okay, so I am fed up trying to search for JWT cam numbers. I enter S5 and it is too short, I enter S5+Cams and it emits S5. AGH!

Well anyways, what I was wanting to know is what cam will be the best for me:

At first I will be running all the basic bolt-ons, and maybe get a fuel pump, SAFC-II, and FPR to tune the engine. I will probably have a JWT ecu as well. The motor is a highport btw.

Now the thing is that I plan on turboing later on down the road (either a T28 or the turbo in my sig). Either way I want to make some power.

What cam is going to be the best for daily driving (I don't want the idle to be too weird), drag, and autoX? I know obviously JWT is what I am going with as far as cams, but what will give me the most power when I am NA, and what will give me the most power when I am turbo? Hopefully it can be the same came, but if I end up having to purchase 1 set of cams and then sell them later for a different set then that is fine too. I want as much power as possible.

S3 or S4 cams. S3 = low to midrange; S4 = mid to top end; S5 = mid to a lot of top end

So S5's would be good if I get some good valve springs and retainers? Happen to know where the valve float for S5's is rpm wise?

jwt no longer sells s5's do to the various members blowing their motors up.

s4's are great for the 200-350whp range. above that id get c3's with springs and retainers.

although i wish jwt would build a set of cams for the 300whp range that are a lil more aggressive then s4's.

but all in all s4's are the truth.

Alright, well what should my rev limit be if I get S4's? I am getting Greddy Valve Springs and Retainers (can't decide to RAS or not).

scrap teh spring and retainer idea, s4's are the perfect drop in cam. dont rev past 7800 imho.

s5 got way too much over lap to be used with a turbo. Id honestly do s4 or c1.

Alright, thanks for the help guys!

I wanted the springs and retainers for the extra insurance in case I overrevved.

Also wouldn't I make more power at a higher RPM though?

Depending on your turbo. T25 run outta breath around 6-6500.

I was thinking either a T28 or a GT30701R.

What about when I am NA, when does the power fall off with the S4's?

No, I dont see why it would..Maybe after so many RPM, but by then your motor would blow.

You serious??? Was this due to people not using their valvesprings/retainers, or people just plain f*ing up their engines? If so, how'd the engine's blow up?

True, my engine was destroyed while I was using S5 cams, but my problem had nothing to do with the cams.

take it easy there cowboy :squint: . first off i wasnt even refering to you. your not the only one to have had s5's. i was speaking about fastnx (believe thats his handle).

and yes in those cases the s5's are the reason people fucked up their motors simply because jwt did not tell people to run springs and retainers and their pistons kissed their valves. simple as that.

i agree they are good all motor cams.

So wait. I just ordered a set of S4's. Once I go turbo (since that's when I'm getting my ECU), I'll be able to rev up to 7600-7800 and not have to worry about anything? I heard to use rocker stoppers, springs, and retainers.

You're saying I don't need any of that crap? What the hell is the problem then?

Search for "S5*" without the quotes. The "*" character is a wildcard.

yeah s4's can be reved out till about 7800 with stock springs and retainers. like i said they are the pefect/most aggressive drop in cams jwt makes. when i was all motor i would take it to 7800 just for powerband purposes. but now since im turbo i only take it to about 7500.

This thread is another reason why I am getting S4s.

So how much power would S4 cams ADD to a basically stock SR20DE and stock ECU? What about with a JWT ECU?

IMHO I say get valve springs and get some C2s. I had S3s before and now C2s, I like the C2s over S3s. With cam gears you can set the intake cam to whatever you want. With my intake cam set at -5 degree's the car idles with very little lope. Top end is great but low-mid range sucks.
