Hey everyone, whats up! Ive been reading this forum for the past few months but this is my first time posting! Im from Omaha, NE and am a proud owner of a 93 NX2000 which is completely stock right now except for a cone shaped air filter.

Recently, I've been having trouble with my car. It all started several weeks ago when I was at a stop light and I noticed that my car was shaking more than usual and when i drove on, it didnt seem to have any power, kinda like when Im running the AC. The car has around 88,000 miles so I decided to do a full tune-up. I replaced the plugs(NGK BKR6E's), wires, rotor, distributor cap, fuel filter, and PCV valve (all OEM) and adjusted my timing which was between 5-10 and now at 15. The car now seems to have most of the power it used to have, but it still shakes more around 1000-1500 rpm and just doesn't feel like it used to. Also, when the car is idling, the exhaust seems to sound different. Before, it was a constant sputtering, but now it sounds more 'choppy'. My grandpa took a look at the car and he thought it might be a bad valve and suggested I do a compression test, so i did that tonight and this is what i got:

1: 165, 195, 200
2: 175, 175
3: 170, 175
4: 155, 175, 175

This was the first time I have done this and I was using a compression tester with the rubber end that you hold over the cylinder, so this might be why cylinders 1 and 4 are off. When I took out the plugs, I also noticed that the plugs looked normal except for cyl. 4 which looked somewhat oily.

Also, within the past week or two, I've been hearing this nasty rattling sound when the engine is around 3000rpms or higher. I hear the noise most of the time when i press down lightly on the accelerator, but it goes away when i push the pedal down farther. Could this be the timing chain?

If anyone could help me out, I would gladly appreciate it.
Thanks!
Derek

Were you carefully following the compression test advice as posted on www.se-r.net ?

And also you may need to consider a spun bearing. From the sounds of your last few sentences:

Someone else may have to chime in more hear though as i am not intimately familiar with spun bearings (other than knowing that they are somewhat common)

Also send me a PM cause i need to get you hooked up on the KCSERCA list. We try (emphasis on try) to have regular events down here in Kansas City and there are a few people that may be able to help you out that are closer than you think.

Have you checked your motor mounts
A spun bearing is an awful noise that starts aroun 2.5k 3k rpms. It is very audible!! And goes way once you start rollin, very fast.

Try having your engine on and removing one spark plug wire from the spark plug at a time.
If you hear the noise from a cylinder once the wire is pulled, then that , my friend, is the guilty culprit.

I followed the technique described in the factory service manual, but it was my first time doing it, so maybe I'll try it again later.

Thanks for the help!:)
