I'm about to burn a lot of money on a quest for induction power and hp!
First i wanted to buy i turbo kit from hotshot or f-max.After thinking about it for a while, for almost the same price i could get a complete motor (sr20det) for about the same price of a turbo kit.
My question is, what do you suggest for me, i want to built a fast street car with about 230 whp.
I'm worried about the durability of my sr20de with 65 000 miles if i buy a turbo kit and run 6 to 7 psi.
For you people who boughts a sr20det from a bluebird, is it common to have some problem when runnig for the first time, and is it a problem to find parts for the det even if almost all parts are interchangable with my current sr20de?

If all you want is 230hp i would stay with your det. It should be plenty strong enough for that power level. And to turbo your motor would be a whole lot easier

go with the det. i was in the same position with my 93. with the det youll have all the power you need but youll also have a spare motor you can build up at a nice slow pace. and plus youll have a det!!!or you can sell the spare motor and have some extra $$$ for suspension parts, pullies, front mount intercooler... but the choice is yours.

65,000 miles really isn't that much for an SR20DE. If you run compression and leakdown tests on your engine, then you can tell for sure if it is up to the task of boost. My guess is that it will be great assuming you are good about changing oil.

Im also having problem deciding whether to go with turbo kit or det.
Here's what I think. Since I have a low mileage motor (39k) I would probably go with a bolt on turbo kit (fmax or hotshot) because it's probably easier than installing a det in there. I can always sell the turbo if i decide to sell the car in the future without having to swap out the engine again.
secondly, most people swap in a bb det (red cover?), I think those engines are from 91-93 (correct me if im wrong), since the engines are 10years old and have unknown mileage and u don't know what the previous owner did to the engine.
both routes should cost about the same money. I think.

Either way can be very reliable. If you want to keep your EGR for inspection then turbo your DE. If you want a better, in some cases more reliable, and higher future potential then go with a BB DET. I swapped out my DE when it had 30,000 miles on it and put a BB det in. Sometimes I wish I had turbo'd my original DE because I knew the history of the engine and I could have kept my EGR equipment on the engine for inspection, but then I think about how good my engine runs now and how reliable it has been since this engine was *made* to be turbo. It is a hard decision. Good luck
