Well i was just curious of something and this may seem kinda weird but i will explain myself.

When you are getting out of the car and locking the door (from the inside) and you close the door do you have to hold the handle up to get the door to remain locked?

Reason i ask is because my car (92 sentra SE-R) i don't have to hold the outside door handle up. On my girlfreinds car (91 NX2000) however i do have to hold the handle up.

At First i thought it was just something with the NX's But then i rode in SENTRASER's car (92 NX2000) and you don't have to hold the handle up to get it to lock.

What the heck? Was this a 91 only kind of thing or is there something wrong with the lock mechanism inside my GF's door?

Lemme know what kind of car you have and if you have to hold the outside door handle up to lock it.

Thanks
Rick

Try this one on for size. In my '91, you have to hold the passenger side handle up to lock the door, but not the driver's side. I know the original owner of the car, and he said none of the doors has been changed.

So it seems to be that there is no real pattern to this....
Anybody ever opened one of the doors up to figure out what the heck is wrong?

I kinda expect that it is just one of the rods is out of place or something in there... Maybe bent

Anybody?

it's definitely intentional and used by foreign auto makers. by making it a 2 step process to lock the door by flipping the lock lever they are trying to encourage you to lock the door using the key.. the ultimate goal to detour F tards from locking their keys in the car. making cars tard safe is job #1.

They only had this on 91 models. I never thought about it, but has anyone switched the doors guts on a later model to get rid of having to do this? hmmm. Sounds like a future project. I get tired of telling my passengers that they have to hold the handle up.

actually, my 93 honda civic had the same thing, but only on the driver's door(it was a 4-door)
