Ever since I purchased my goddamn P10 I have been driven crazy by my insanely loud fart can magnaflow muffler that came on the VRS 2.5" catback. Too add to the madness, the previous owner also put on a test pipe and opted NOT to get the resonated version of the exhaust.....

You can only imagine how loud it is. On top of the sound, I feel as though the setup REALLY kills some of the cars drivabiliy as 1st gear is always a bit touchy under 1500rpm when letting the clutch out... and the fact that I never even want to rev past 3K in the city because of the loudness and rasp of the exhst.

SO, I plan on eventually putting the stock catalytic back on there relatively soon (I have to get one first :( ) but before that I would like to replace the muffler with something that is much larger and actually does some "muffling".

I like the way my magnaflow looks, but I think I would much prefer a a dual tip, oval tip, or otherwise.... just not a big-ass melon-shooter can. My only other requirements are that it be relatively quiet and under $200.

ANy suggestions?

heres a pic of my current muffler....

I don't know that your muffler is the problem... I think that's one of the nicer magnaflows, I would personally spend the money on getting a cat and resonater put on.

Yeah. Get a cat because its the right thing to do, and get a 30" thrush glasspack resonator in there. Summit sells them for $29. You'll be fine. Your magnaflow looks good.

What do you mean about the 1st gear drivability? Are you talking about it "bucking"? If so, I would look at your motor mounts causing that. Maybe get some inserts.

^^^ or fill them in yourself. i actually have the 2.5 inch vrs exhaust it it is not loud at all, this was the biggest resonator that can fit with the vrs setup i have and my car is really quiet even at WOT. i suppose the turbo also has something to do with this, but my friend has the same set up in his VE and it sounds great.
Resonator - # 10436 - $ $57 to $59 Get them from Performance Peddler on ebay - http://stores.ebay.com/Performance-Peddler

lol, expensive ;)

I am getting the VRS 2.5/maganflow soon. But a cat does a world of wonders in quieting noise.

A lot of it is bucking and chatering, another bit of it is the fact that I have a JGY 8.8lb flywheel/clutch setup which needs to see at least 22-2500rom for smooth engagement. The loudness and raspiness prevents me from revving it freely in public areas and when let out smoothly without revving there is almost always a bit of a "lurch"

Also when shifting from 1st to 2nd there is always sputtering, which also happens when coming off throttle in either gear.

It seems like it is running VERY rich which somehow makes the low rpm throtlle response suffer.

Also, all of these issues are greatly exaggerated in reverse.

Looks like the perfect solution for me.

This and a cat should cut the rasp and alot of the loudness? I dont want stock sound levels, but I sure as hell dont wanna be heard coming from a mile.

you need to get a big ass resonator under there. that will be a huge factor in getting rid of the raspiness. get that on and a cat then see how it sounds

you can shove a 36" inch magnaflow 6" round muffler in the midsection since you have no cat. you can get that on ebay for 100 bucks, some guy sells tons of magnaflow stufff. he can get anything you want magnaflow, cheap.

Leave your muffler on there and put that on, I gurantee youll be happy :)

Yeah you are lucky you have 2-1/2 exhaust. I don't think they make this type of resonator for 3". I have 3" and only can find the crappy "bullet" style resonators with nearly no sound deadening properties. Good purchase, please let us know how it sounds with the resonator.

That resonator will DEFINATELY help a LOT! As will the cat. I am confident you will be happy!
