is the us head the same as the jdm head? ie can i take my us block head and get it ported and polished and then swap it over to a det if i ever get the cash for one?

Yes but you will have to swap the intake manifold all together. That's what sr20dev. did with Ron's car (from what I read). Low port de head with DET short block.
