I could of swore that only primeras had VE. But my friend who works at a tuner shop told me that late model S14/S15 Silvia's black top engines has VVL technology in them too? I highly doubt that.... but can someone clarify this up with me?

I think he's refering to something similar but definietly not VVL. I won't believe it till i see some solinoids/cams that prove the VVL that he claims....

What he said.

AFAIK it only works for a short time throughout the power band.

there were actaully very few N/A Silvias released in japan with RWD VVL motors.

You sure those aren't swapped?

Like the others have said in this thread, S14 and S15 engines had VVT, variable valve timing, on the intake cam only, but most certainly no VVL, where it works like VTEC.

being the self appointed authority on such said topic.

No SR20DE nissan engine, from the factory, came RWD in with NEO VVL technology. As mentioned previously, S14 and S15 motors came with VVT. Even the Autech version of the S15 motor did not have NEO VVL.

Some tuner shops have swapped VE heads onto RWD motors, as there are pictures proving it.

Yeh this is the case, S14 Q's and JDM S15 Spec S's and the Varietta (s15 convertible) all had VVT, but no neovvl. The S14 and S15 turbo models had VVT too. You can tell these engines apart from the others as they back of the valve cover angles down

It's funny that this is brought up. I swear I saw a vvl valve cover on a S15 and it sure seemed to be stock looking. I thought the vehicle was from Australia or New Zealand.

There is bugger all sr20de s15s in australia, they are very hard to import. We have many sr20det varients though. Regardless, either way it would have been a conversion.

So pretty much its safe to conclude that the S14/S15's DO NOT have VVL technology. They only have VVT (variable valva TIMING) correct?
