I installed the updated timing chain tensioner several years ago. I can't remember when it started, but there is a definite jingling noise as you rev it through 3500 RPM. That is about where it starts eventually being overcome by the engine noise as you rev higher.

My car is a 92 SE-R with 140K miles. I am guessing I did the tensioner at about 110K miles.

Do I need yet another tensioner or should I go whole hog and change the chain???

Hi mean, my name's Matt from Roanoke, VA. What up! Look man, your tensioner may be fine. have you checked all your heatshields and everything? maybe something is just rattling. or does the noise sound like it's coming from inside the engine?

The chain tensioner generally will not help with engine clatter when accelerating or hard throttle. The replacement will put more tension on the chain and in some cases alleviate the start-up clatter.

But most of us who have replaced them (Did this on my '91 NX2000 not the G20. Is not needed) got the start-up clatter again within a few thousand miles.

You might have other issues to deal with if you are getting engine clatter at 3500K+.
