: a few engine swap questions

In about a month, I'm going to attempt an engine swap in our NX2000. Just had a few questions concerning it........

1. I know that many people have just plugged up their EGR systems on USDM motors and still pass NJ inspection. So, the question here is, can I retain the JDM intake and exhaust manifolds? Does the JDM manifold have a hole for the 02 sensor? If not, I guess that answers one of my questions.

2. When you remove the a/c compressor, you simply unbolt it from the motor, while not disconnecting any refrigerant lines, right?

3. I assume it is easier to pull the engine through the top by leaving the transmission in the car. Is there any advantage to leaving the tranny attached to the original motor?

4. Here is a small list of parts I plan on replacing during the swap: starter, alternator, clutch, belts, hoses, normal tune-up stuff...what else would you add to this list? I know I'm missing stuff, but I have plenty of time.

5. What advice do you have to offer? I have no doubt more questions will pop up as the next few weeks come by.

I will slowly be ordering the necessary parts and will begin shopping for engines shortly. I will probably buy it from SOEN/SOKO/SOKEN/SOHSIN since they have a place about 20 minutes from my house. I can save on shipping charges that way. In the meantime, since I'm at school and the NX is at home, I will slowly dismantle the current car (to hopefully expedite things later on) every time I go home. Thanks in advance!

Advice:

1 - Tranny/Motor together - I removed it that way and installed it that way - easy. (just did a swap in an NX with a blown motor this weekend)

2 - If you tearing down now and waiting till later to install, get lots of lil plastic bags, label the bolts and put them in there... makes it easier come install time (though I'm getting good at knowing whats what now)

3 - If you have someone helping, take the hood off, before you start and put it on when your done, not necessary but makes it nice and easy.

4 - AC compressor - yes, unbolt and leave it on there, don't disconnect it - yipes

5 - Motor - if those places are busy/high whatever - try JGY very reliable guy.

6 - Other parts you should swap/will need:
1 - Thermostat
2 - throttle body gasket (remove it and clean the #^% out of it)
3 - Axle seals for the tranny - cheap insurance
4 - Clutch & resurface the flywheel
5 - Clean out the idle air control valve as described on SE-R net, just incase, its a pain to get to
6 - I put everything on the motor other than the AC compressor before dropping in the motor, including the PS/Water Pump pulley - its a biotch to get to also....

Thats all I can think of... best of luck and ask anyone here for help if needed!

PS - you have an electric speedo instead of the stinkin mechanical one on the '92 I did lol - mine doesn't work - that sucks.....
