: Which cam do I buy???

Hey guys!

I've been out of the loop for a while because I bought a boat. But I just had my first autox of the year today and woo-woo!, it's time to start wasting money on my car again

Okay. I have no idea which cams to buy. I'll need to find them used because I'm broke. I need them to be quiet because it is a commuter car. And I need them to give me about 10 more hp.

I was reading a lot about JWT C4's but I can't find any good info on them anymore. Now I'm hearing that the S4's are considerably better but I thought they were more for racing. And, if the C3 really are better for street and will still give me a nice power boost, I don't mind saving some cash

Thanks for all your help guys!

dude C series would be harsh on a daily driver. Your better off with s3 or s4 cams. The C series you will need to buy Spring and retainers. And I think C3 are strictly drag use only.

C4's???? I wasn't aware they were out yet. I believe the C2's and C3's are better for road racing applications because of the high end power. Most drag racers are fine with S3's, S4's, or the C1's. You can also go over to the dark side (JUN's) if you want. I'll have dyno numbers in a few monthes.

Okay. You schooled me. Maybe C4's don't exist. I thought I had read that they did.

Now, keep in mind that I'm not in it to drag race or road race. I want a good reliable mildly tuned cam for about 10 more hp. I autocross and I don't want to seem too far beyond stock :)

Is the S3 the "street cam?"

The C2 cams are great for a daily driver. My car lopes pretty good at idle but has never died on me and is a blast to drive. C series cams are roadrace cams not dragrace cams. Although thats not gonna stop me from seeing what they pull. :D

For autocross I would say S3's would be the best choice. They have the best low RPM powerband. Or the Tomie street cams have a great powerband and are pretty cheap.
I have a feeling I am gonna struggle pulling out of low speed sharp corners *** the C2's have some losses in the low RPM area.

I would go with the S3's. Though they are among the mildest, I guarantee you will still be impressed and will have the least amount of lost low-end torque.

Speaking of the Tomei cams. Does anyone know how much those go for in the US? My friend is from Japan and is going there to visit in a few weeks. I can get a set of the cams they make for the primera (260's) for like $350. What you guys think?

Like it was mentioned before the C series cams do need valve springs and retainers. From what I hear that is very pricey so if you are short on cash avoid those. ;) If you want them for Autoxing I would go with the S3's. From the research I have done they have good lowend power.

I just got the S4's installed in my Classic. I did feel a little loss of power in the lowend but at higher RPM's they are AWESOME!!:D Very impressive IMHO!

The new S4 cams are about $600 :(

You know that cams put you into Prepared classes or Street Mod right? Or are you looking for a mild one so that you can cheat? :D

I tried ordering a set of the Toda cams, springs, retainers, and camgears back in October. The cams were backordered forever. Heck, they probably still don't have them. I decided to go with the JWT C2 setup after much waiting.
