So i talked to steve, and he said the koni reds would work best with the hyperco springs i have sitting around...only thing i dont like about that... is they are not externally adjustable... So if i got autox then i have to stick with street setting or go through the big hassle of changing it.

Other option is agx, which are adjustable, but they arent " shortened struts."

The roads here can be pretty bad ( Thanks PA)

I was also wondering... What if i got the koni reds, and adjusted them all the way stiff... my hyperco springs only drop the car like an inch.. and the koni reds are 1 " shorter.. so could i do this and not ruin the strut, since it probably wouldnt bottom out all that much?

Get the koni yellows in shortened stock strut housings. There you go!

if you can't do the yellows, then get the AGX, they work fine.

when i was talking to steve about konis last year i had decided on koni yellow inserts to use with hypercos. i think they are spec-v inserts. i think they're cheaper than the b13 reds even.

also, i can promise you that any koni's, adjustable or not, are better than the AGX's. koni makes a far superior damper. my roommate has yellows in his focus and they are excellent.

I'll haveta keep this in mind next time... I picked up a set of AGXs for now. Haven't owned anything shortened since my Motivational Engineerings.

what is the difference between the red and yellows, and where are you guys getting these inserts from?

so you can use spec v inserts into b14s? If so, i would go with that, and that way it can be adjusted.

that's what i was told by steve. definitely give him a call and ask him exactly what your options are. he's the guru. mine was for a b13 application though. i know the fronts are the same, but i'm not sure about the rear compatibility.

and to whoever had asked the difference between reds and yellows: i'm not positive if there is a difference in hardware besides the adjustability. all of the front yellows i have seen are externally adjustable and most of the rears are external. if not, the rears can be adjusted with the strut out of the car.

i'm pretty sure about this stuff, but don't take my word for it. like i said, steve is the guy to ask.

oh, and i'm pretty sure tirerack carries the koni inserts at some of the lowest prices around. i've never really looked hard though.

Yellows > Reds > AGX
Steve was probably telling you the reds are sufficient for the spring you have. I installed shortened hyperco/koni on my brothers car. Well controlled and predictable, even compared to my GC/ Koni yellow(rewelded perch , 10" spring) set-up.
If you do go with Koni, find someone(Steve, if he isn't too busy building houses!) to help with the install. There are many small details that can make the inserts feel bad. There is a "How to" in the Techincal section.
Take the extra travel over adjustability if your budget dictates a choice. Adjustability means nothing when you're riding on the bumpstops.

I explained my situation that I want adjustability with ease.. there goes the red option... so now im looking at the yellows.. and he said he doesnt do rear yellows... so that leaves me with yellows up front and agx back... i told him this is a spirited daily driver/weekend very spirited driver.. and also gets some auto X action. He said alot of his track guys use this setup... im sure the extra inch or so of suspension travel makes daily driving somewhat comfotable also. :biggthump

So i already have the hypercos sitting in my room, now i need to get

-yellow konis up front
- rear agx
-ME rear mounts
-koni bumpstops

anything else?

I was never a big AGX fan. The ride isn't all that great with them, but its definitely acceptable.

I love my Koni reds. Adjusting them sucks, but I like to look at it as one of those set-it-and-forget things :)

i still say get the koni reds for the rear. i would much rather have a good damper that's a pain to adjust than a mediocre damper that's easily adjustable. everything else sounds good.

Dang, all I seemed to have read over the past month said that the AGX's were good so I ordered a set. Now I'm reading all of these bad experiences in this thread. Are they really that bad?

agx's are fine. they are junk compared to a set of koni's though.
