i was reading a post in the Turbo section and SERprise In WV said he removed his EGR from his US block. What kind fo gains does this give AND since i dont have emissions its not going to hurt any....am i correct in this?? Also if it IS benificial if anyone could say what was needed to do this that would be cool as well.

Blair--
Yep, I removed mine a couple years ago. Just remove the EGR and BPT thingy with it, plug up the vacuum connection with a screw/bolt.
You'll need to fab up a plate to completely block off the opening left by removing the EGR valve, though. I used a dremel and some sheet steel to do mine. I RTV'd the hell out of it, then secured the plate down with the bolts that *used* to hold the EGR on there.
Worked like a charm.
No appreciable benefits, really. Just one less thing to worry about failing, which all EGRs do, sometime. And, they aren't cheap from Nissan. ;)
Good luck, Blair.

I agree. No benefit, But less crap to clog up later on.

Quick question for you guys, I know removal of the EGR causes higher levels of NOX. Would it be impossible to pass a sniffer test with the EGR removal, or should I worry? My header doesn't have an EGR fitting, so it's disconnected, and I have to test for emissions soon. BTW, I have a 97 SE-R. Thanks...

I have no clue about emissions. We are emissions-testing free in good 'ol West by God Virginia. :D

I had mine welded shut. Really easy for a good welder only took 5 minutes.

Unfortunately, you will not pass. You can try the ol' "stick a bottle of alcohol in the tank" trick, but its still a slim chance.
We dont have "sniffer" tests here in FLA either. :D

I took the header to the Home Depot Auto Dept and found a nut/bolt that fit in the hole. Then I just screwed it on REAL tight.
Total cost= $0.95 :D
