I am looking into getting my NX painted and wanted to get a feel for - how much you guys paid; whether it was worth it; if you had to do it again what you would do differently; etc... any contributions are appreciated.

I have had a couple estimates figure on 2500 bucks for a good quality job if the car doesn't need a lot of work. That means taking the time to remove trim, and other components to do the job right. Also wet sanding in between coats. Takes time to do it right. Maaco will scuff mask and spray. You get what you pay for when it comes to a quality job.

Yeah, be very wary of anything under 1000.

I am going to the paint shop myself soon. Sometime in late may or early june I think.

One thing that perplexes me is what to do about the trim. I have a black NX that has a 4 inch grey plastic trim that wraps around the car.

My issue is that the trim seems to be made of different material on different parts of the car. Most particularly, the trim is a part of the bumper which seems to be a different material then the trim attached to the door. On the door trim there is UV discoloration and the texture is rough, the bumpers are clean and smooth without discoloration. Its annoying and I am not sure what to tell the body shop ppl what to do about it. When I see another black NX around town, I notice it has the same issue.

For those of you who have painted the NX, did you paint the trim ? How did you freshen this part up ?

I had my NX painted at Maaco over a year ago. They had a special going and it was around $900 for next to top-of-the-line paint jobs. For the money I spent, it was a bargain. The paint hasn't peeled yet.

I had them paint the entire car the same color, trim and all. Looks great.

socalnx: I had my NX re-painted about a year and a half ago...kept white for main color. I believe you are referring to the body side molding when you say "trim"? This trim wraps around to the front and runs right below the headlights, right? I had mine painted a dark blue (GM Indigo Metallic Blue), instead of the stock gray. So far, no issues with cracking/peeling on the trim because of it being a different material.

I spent about $1200 on my paint job; that included some *very* minor body work (a couple of small dents). It was a local shop where I used to live. I'm not sure if they removed the trim from the sides, but it looks very nice where the 2 color meet. If the didn't remove the trim, they did a helluva nice job of masking.

I have to agree with aka focus...you get what you pay for...

Good luck...hope the paint jobs turn out well for y'all :)
