DyeOwnsMe 06-20-2006, 09:10 PM Achiveable? 92 SR-R GTi-R MOTOR.
I want a complete 3in set-up for upgradeability but I dont want to wake the neibhors.
I've been looking at all types of muffler but dont want to sacrifice all my power to make it quiet....
Anyone on this forum have the WARLOCK muffler by Flowtech?
Or should i stick with a Magnaflow or...
McCoy 06-20-2006, 09:13 PM is this for a turbo car?
My wife can hear my coming from about 4-5 blocks with my quite 3" side-exit exhaust... this is a turboed car.

true... I'm still lacking sleep and thought he asked about side-exit 3" exhausts
t bags 06-20-2006, 09:35 PM must be fun to hear ur turbo whine like a newborn:cool:
Toolapcfan 06-20-2006, 09:36 PM Everyone thinks that 3" exhausts have to be loud. People told me that mine would be loud, and that it would be even louder with the VE. Here's what I have, and it's very decent sounding, not ricey or metallic and it's way quieter than cars with otherwise stock exhausts and fart cans on the end:
SSAC header
3" stainless Magnaflow CAT
3" VRS stainless exhaust
3" x 5"x15" round, straight through, perf core, Borla stainless muffler for a resonator
All told, cost me about $700. I tig welded it together myself. Only thing I don't like is that the morons at VRS use flanges that aren't stainless steel, weld on hanger rods that aren't stainless steel and provide you with nuts and bolts that also, are not stainless steel. Fitment is great though.
t bags 06-20-2006, 09:48 PM a cat and a resonator will definitely make it quieter
Killdannow 06-20-2006, 11:34 PM ill keep saying this because it always suprised me, but at least on a b14 a 36" 3"inlet and outlet 6" round muffler will fit where the cat is if you dont mind getting rid of it.That alone is reasonably quiet, but if you still dont like it you can put whatever size muffler fits on your car as well and if its turbo i doubt you can even hear it unless you did a sh*tty job welding it.
DyeOwnsMe 06-21-2006, 01:15 AM Sorry for not explaining what car.
The WARLOCK looks good for ugradeability...
STRATTON 06-21-2006, 07:35 AM a cat and a resonator will definitely make it quieter
this man is right. i have a 3 inch down pipe with no cat, back a bit more where the car was im running a 3 inch magnaflow resonator then to the 3 ich inlet on my apexi n1 muffler.
idle sounds great, its deep but still when u rev it at 7800 it still gets a pop or two, its loud enough to let fuckers know it aint a game, yet quite enough that u can cruise past the cops a lil less then half throttle and you good.
stratton.
XxToKeSxX 06-21-2006, 07:45 AM 7800 rpm :eek2:
long of a resonator as you can, and as many as you can. bang bang
jlpearl 06-21-2006, 09:21 PM My car is the one that has the muffler Killdannow is tlaking about. I have a T25 which feeds a 2.5" downpipe and the single 36" long magnaflow resonator (3" diameter and 6" diameter body). That then feeds a 3" diameter tailpipe. I have no cat and no heatshield under the transmission tunnel. However the car is quiet with a nice tone and a stock looking tailpipe. Im extremely happy with it.

Yeah, that is annoying. If anyone wants to get actual stainless flanges, you can buy them from road race engineering for 20 bucks a piece, or from Vibrant for 100 dollars for a box of five (same price).

Got any pics?
SERprise In WV 06-21-2006, 09:47 PM As the guys have said, a 3" if done well, can be very quiet.
My 3" setup with the VE engine in my SE-R is *very quiet* compared to the 2.25" VRS setup on my kid's NX2000. Believe it or not. The VRS is a little "blatty".
The SE-R has a 3" Dynomax race bullet as a resonator, and a Dynomax stainless steel round muffler on it. Sounds better with the VE than it did with the T28, IMHO. :D
OptimumSE-R 06-21-2006, 09:49 PM Just get an exhaust cut out if nothing else works. ;)
jerryeads 06-21-2006, 09:54 PM 3" Magnaflow/VRS behind a VE in B13. Cat, long resonator and oval (5x8) tail muffler. Apexi butterfly cable actuated "silencer" (ECV) between the cat and resonator. Fits perfectly. Tolerable quiet with the butterfly about 80% closed, but don't like the idea of forgetting to open it when I stand on it. When it's open, it resonates pretty hefty between 2500 and about 3800, and of course on the high cams it can be heard for miles. Think I'll try the "active tail silencer" - tack on a 90mm tube or whatever it takes on the end of the magnaflow and stick one of those in there.

I got my stainless flanges and hanging rod from Stainless Works: http://www.stainlessworks.net/cart/index.php
I was very satisfied. Actually, I bought everything from them but the cat, resonator, and muffler - so basically pipe, mandrel bends, flanges, hanging rod, band clamps.etc.
