Are any of you guys interested in sheets of paint protection film. Pretty much what it is is a thick clear vinyl/urethane that you put on the front of you car to avoid rock chips. This stuff is usally pretty expensive but I think I can find a deal for it. Anyone interested? I am probably going to throw some on my car. Thanks.

Yeah I saw this stuff being demonstrated on an episode of MotorWeek about 2 weeks ago. He didn't mention the price but the show also talked about the drawbacks of "bras" and how over time the paint color can fade or if you get dirt underneath it can scratch the paint.

The guys also said you'd have to have it profess-installed, and they wouldn't reccommend self-tries. ??? What gives?

Usually profressionals recommend that professionals install anything. Just another way to make a buck. From the information I have installing this stuff is no different than with large vinyl decals. You just you a wet application method with a squegee. I would give better instrustions if this pans out but really it is easy.
The material is 6mil thick so it should hold up well. It forms a perfect bond with your car but you can remove it without ruining your paint.

I am still looking for a supplier for prices but I know that places sell kits, even for our cars, for hundreds of dollars. I am thinking the film should not be too horribly priced, so you should be able to save quite a bit.
I will get back to you guys on this. Thanks

Is it the X-PEL film? I got their headlight protection film on both my projector and H4 lights, I bought them from www.xpel.com. I would be interested in getting the paint film for my hood and bumper. Let us know, good looking out man.

I was looking on XPEL site and they use the same stuff 3M Scotchcal. Pretty much everyone uses it. If you look on thier site they want a $109 for a little to cover the front of your hood and fenders.

My bad, I thought they made the stuff. For my 2 sets of lights I just bought a big sheet of film for 60 bucks, insted of paying 80 bucks for a pre-cut sheet for one set. Does 3M sell pre-cut hood protection kits or just the raw material?

3M doe not sell precut shapes. That is what all the companes do with 3M product. I was just thinking that this stuff 1) works great 2) does not look bad (or like anything for that matter) 3) Costs a lot. So I wanted to see what I could do. You should be able to ake your own for a lot cheaper. Once I get a price we can see what we can do.

That would be cool. I'd get two (if the price is reasonable) for my 00 SE and 91 SE-R. Keep us posted.
