So I went to Autozone last nite to get some NX rotors.

ME: Yea I'd like to get some 93 nx2k rotors.

Worker: Ok, who makes the NX?

Me: Nissan.

My Girlfriend to Me: So why do you need these on your car, why dont you get the ones for your car, wont they be cheaper.
Then, I start to proceed to explain to her why I need them and blah blah.. Then...

Worker: What kinda car do you have

ME:94 Sentra

Worker: Her laughs and says your would be cheaper these arent going to do anything for you.

Me: i was like WTF!!, they help you stop better, especially on the track.

Worker: your taking a sentra to the track.. lol!! why dont you dont you just get an NX2k?

Me to GF: See this is why places like this get such bad name, cause of Ignorant people like this!!

I was still like WTF.. why does he even work there.. ughhh.

oh well.. the rotors where 49.99 hehe

ANywhoot thats my story.

Am I the only one that has experienced this??

Me to Azone worker "I need cap & rotor for a '91 sentra 2.0"
Azone worker "Those things are cool - did you see the article in SCC about that turbo 200sx?"
Me - "Yep, actually this is for the lower end of the same turbo motor, I'm putting it in a 200sx"
Worker after getting parts - "Don't put this shit in there, get OEM, your cars to nice!"
Me - "Really I thought about that, ok I'll get OEM, thanks"
Worker, points to Del Sol - "Thats my car, nothing like what yours is going to be, but gets me where I'm going"

So:
1. Some Autozone workers are cool
2. Some honda workers are cool

Me: How much for a thermostat for a '93 NX2000?

Her: You got a NSX?

Me: No, I mean an '93 NISSAN NX2000!

Her: Nissan doesn't make the NSX!

ME: I didn't say NSX. I said '93 NISSAN NX2000!!!

Her: Oh. Lemme check....... There's no such thing.

Me: OK, how about a thermostat for a '93 Nissan Sentra SE-R?

Her: Why didn't you just ask for that in the first place? Don't you know what kinda car you have?

Me: GRRRRRR

Don't use Auto Zone for the 'small' things you need during a turbo conversion. Trust me on this one...

Me: "I need a 3/8" to 1/4" connector for some water/radiator hoses."

Him: "They're over there in the radiator aisle."

Me: "No, they're not. You'll probably have to order them. I'm sure Stant (radiator hose/fittings company) will have them listed in their catalog."

Him: "If they're not over there, they don't exist."

Summation: If it's not on the shelves at Auto Zone, it does not exist in the known automotive universe.

Visit to NAPA store, later that same day...

Me: "I need some 3/8" to 1/4" connectors for water/radiator hoses."

Him: "That's part # 43xxx813. I can order them. You'll have them in a day or two."

Summation: NAPA kicks Auto Zone's ass all over the place. Except if you're looking for stickers or neon. :D

I think Pep Boys is even WORSE!!!!
I cant complain about AutoZone since my brother-in-law hooks me up with free stuff from there. Its a bunch of Puerto Ricans running THAT store. So they know their sh*t. Especially Rotaries!!

Figman, I'm with you. AutoZone around here hasn't blown it with me yet, but Pep Boys is populated entirely by idiots. They even told me, with a straight face, that the Sentra was never available with a 2 liter engine... Remember the whole Optima battery fiasco? Maybe I'll repost it for the benefit of our new members ;)

I get lucky because there used to be a guy that worked at the auto zone in my town that had a 97 se-r and actually knew what it was, and the ass. manager is in the z-club and drives old z's, so they are always pretty cool, but I ususally get odds and ends there, nothing too important there :)

YOU ARE RIGHT! I only go to Pep Boys to make aligments to my car, to buy oils, or another stuff for my car. I had a '80 RX-7 and that car had some noises in the front. At that moment Pep Boys was new in PR and I said, "let get my car there to fix it. BIG MISTAKE! Those a$$holes charged me almost $500 to fix it. When I got my car back, the car still had the same noises. I said WTF! I went back and I told them that my car was not fixed. They went to inspect the car and THESE a$$holes told me that my car had another problem in the front and to fix it they will charge me another $400. FUCK them!

Pep Boys likes to rip you off. They are experts in that field.

Thanks God since I have my SE-R I fix it myself or with the help of my friend. :)

This is not an SE-R story but nonetheless....

My girlfriend asked to change her spark plug wires and plugs on her 95 vw golf gl. Ok cool, nice way spend a saturday morning.

I figure while I'm in there might as well change the distributor cap and rotor. So I changed her wires and plugs and we proceed to go to pep boys since autozone did not have the much needed cap and rotor for her golf, for which I just changed the wires for 10 minutes prior.

Me: Hi, I need a distributor cap and rotor for a 95 vw golf gl.

PepBoyzHomie: <click> tap<click> ::looks at computer:: <smirks> "that car doesn't have a distributor..."

Me: ummm ok, well I'm sure it does, I just changed the wires and plugs.

PepBoyzHomie: My computer doesn't say it does, let go take a look at it outside....

We proceed to go outside and pop the hood of the golf.
I point out the distributor cap assembly to said homie.
" These right here are the spark plug wires which I just hooked up to this f*cking thing right here, which I like to call a distributor cap."

Homie: Well it looks like it COULD be a distributor, but it doesn't screw in so it can't be one.
Me: VW are different, Why don't you have someone else look it up ?

Half hour and 3 homiez later I walk away with a distro cap and rotor :D

I got the NSX thing from a guy at work once lol....

me "I bought an other project car, a NX 2000"

his inner though "What the fuck is he doing with a 2000 NSX as a project car????"

me - go on to explain how the car is cool as hell, has removable top, handles awesome etc etc....

few weeks later.....

guy - "When you bringing over your NSX?"
me - WHAAAA?????
him - "Your NSX project car"
me - ROFL "You mean my NX2000??????"

The dude about shit, he thought for a few weeks I went out and dropped money on a NSX as a project car lol..... I remember I got this crazy look from him but never but 2 and 2 together...

hehehe

I used to work at Autozone for some part-time cash on the side. This guy named Robbie and myself were the only people there that knew anything about cars. I'm not kidding, we had an alternator tester, no one knew how to check them! They were telling people their's were bad and they really had no idea WTF they were talking about. Ahh... well there's a light thingy that comes on, Yup its bad alright! You need a new one. Can you believe this! The managers were the worst! They acted like they knew and fronted in their attempt to look professional but ask them a simple question like; Do you know what a 4 bolt main is? Or my favorite, I heard them ask each other one day;
"Why are these kids buying 160 thermostats?? Don't they know its the wrong one for their cars?" (Summer time and these "kids" had V8's)

I agree with Greg, Napa is the best for technical expertise.

Stay away from Car Quest, or at least around here stay away from them. Not only are they dumbshits but they try and screw you over with extra addon charges for special orders. Ask a different person for the same part and I've gotten back a different price. Thats worse to me than the Autozone idiots!

So I call up a *certain* exhaust manufacturer about the loudness of my new exhaust, and he proceeds to tell me rather confidently "your car is supposed to have 3 catalytic converters...the fact that you eliminated 2 of them makes the exhaust sound louder." I smiled, said OK, and hung up the phone. Some of you might know who I'm talking about....Think about a certain brown cartoon dog. :)
