Hi guys - from my Small Block Chevy days in the mid-90's, I have a cheap digital multimeter with piercing probes. On my '72 camaro I had no problem jabbing that probe directly into the electrical wiring. On my P11 though, it just seems like a bad idea.

Is it safe to probe through the insulation to check voltage/continuity/resistance? It just seems like a hole in the insulation is an invitation for corrosion. Is there a better way?

TIA

Nope, you'll be fine.

I don't do it, I always trace the wire to a harness where I can contact a terminal to get a reading. As you mentioned, it's an invitation for problems. I don't poke holes in my plumbing to see if there's water there either.
