: stillen/hotshot 4-2-1 header gasket
tHe iLleSt RiCe 06-28-2006, 01:01 AM believe me, i searched on this
the reason for this thread is because i dont have a gasket on the primary to secondary part of the header..people have suggested rtv silicone, it worked for the first few hours and then wouldnt you know it..EXHAUST leak, car feels like crap. so i did some searching because i read a while back that there was a certain gasket that would fit...so i searched again, and found that it was off a 300zx. Now herein lies the problem, some people would say its off a z32 N/A..then in the SAME threads, someone would come in and say its the flange off the z31..i plan on taking the car to the track this weekend, and plus i want it running right, so if anyone knows the RIGHT answer to what gasket is needed, please let me know
thanks
Avshi750 06-28-2006, 01:17 PM summit has an exact replacment... there is a thread out there with a link to the item on summit's site.
Avshi750 06-28-2006, 01:19 PM 8-) there you go.

tHe iLleSt RiCe 06-29-2006, 01:27 AM thats the ticket! ship date isnt till july 5th though, kind of a long time..i think either nissan stocks it, or can order it and have it sooner than that. i remember also reading a long time ago about making your own gasket out of aluminum(like a soda can) haha
tHe iLleSt RiCe 07-06-2006, 11:43 PM fuckin summit, i was about to order it and they delayed the ship date till the 24th!! what the hell
I ordered that gasket from Summit ages ago. If it ships in a couple of weeks as promised, it would have only been a two-month backorder.
SERprise In WV 07-07-2006, 11:06 PM Make your own. Pull the header secondary off, and make a cardboard template for the gasket.
Go to NAPA and buy some high-temp gasket material. It usually is metal sandwiched with a paper-like outer material. Cut new gasket, install, and have fun.
tHe iLleSt RiCe 07-08-2006, 03:32 AM ive done that before on my old ga16de^
usually i find that after a while, the gasket burns off and creates another leak.
pertuzian 07-08-2006, 02:05 PM Rice,
Yes, it's the Z32 gasket. Have you tired Mossy? Greg has those in stock.
I don't know what kind of liquid gasket you tried, but I had only Permatex copper on that joint for 3 or 4 years on my SE-R without it ever leaking. Be sure to sue plenty (but not too much) and let it cure before you run the car.

empower99 07-08-2006, 03:53 PM Use the Summit gasket. I have the Stillen setup and initially used the Z32 gasket. It looks similar but the holes are slightly off, so I bored the holes to match. Only problem is that because they are now enlarged, it almost always shifts when you're putting it on or tightening the bolts down. It always leaked, so I bought the one from Summit. It's a direct fit, high quality gasket. It took me two weeks to get it, but it was well worth the wait.
BTW, Summit pushed the backorder date for my SCE-9400 to August 22.
Order in May, maybe have it by September. Ha, at least shipping is "free."
Parts: $7.95
Handling: $9.75
Ground Shipping charges: **FREE**
Total: $17.70
Fucking outrageous bullshit.
tHe iLleSt RiCe 08-02-2006, 12:45 AM yea i kept checking back with them to see if they had it in stock, and each time id check, the date would be pushed back even more..thats the dumbest shit ive ever seen. Summit is usually pretty good about their stuff..but..

Update! Order in May, receive in September. No, fuck you, Summit Racing, and for so many reasons:
1. Obviously, it took them forever. I know supply problems happen and billy-bob vendors don't have their act together, but come on. Crack the whip, and get boxes out the door. I see the Summit logo all over the box, receipt, catalogs, and stickers they sent. Man up.
2. Going slow doesn't make me as mad as getting robbed for the pleasure. They claim free shipping, but charge $9.95 in "handling." What kind of mouth-breating rubes do they think their customers are? If I pay $8 for a dinkly little gasket, you can do a hell of a lot better than changing me $10 to take all Summer getting it to me.
3. I used their online form exactly as instructed to update my order to include a set of open-ended lug nuts. Never got a response, never got any lug nuts. I got so frustrated that I combed the Internet for hours, and wound up buying a set for a fraction of their cost from someone else. For once, Summit's incompetence saved me money.
4. The sack of marketing crap. This is what came in the box:
http://www.sr20forum.com/gallery/data/601/summitcrap.jpg
Junk from Vonage, BMG Music, Circuit City, Edelbrock, Genuine Hotroad Hardware, and Grant, plus two Summit fliers and two Summit stickers. It insults my intelligence for them collect all this money from other companies to spam me with adverts, then charge $10 to send it all to me.
It doesn't matter that I could have made a servicable gasket out of tin cans, foil gum wrappers, roadkill hides, or toothpaste. There's priciple involved: I wanted one (1) SCE 9400 copper gasket on my doorstep in a reasonable amount of time for a reasonable price, and Summit was the only place selling. Then they sucked. Hard. Shop somewhere else if possible.
tHe iLleSt RiCe 09-05-2006, 07:33 PM at least u got it..i love/d summit because they always came through for me with all my previous orders..However, something as simple as this pretty much blew me away from ever wanting to deal with them again..a 10$ gasket that i have to wait 4months to get? fuck that...and i agree with you, that the free shipping marketing thing is lame as hell when they turn around and charge a handling fee which is the EXACT same thing..Do i still need a gasket? yep, my header leaks like a motherfucker...will i buy that gasket? no, i dont wanna consider waiting that long nor pay 20$ for a damn gasket when i can pay 120$ and get an SSAC header which is better than the current stillen i have now to begin with..thanks summit, for fuckin up..
Benito Malito 09-05-2006, 08:09 PM I hate the fact that you get the 10lb catalogue every month forever! I'm still getting them at no less than three addresses
Mimmsey 09-05-2006, 09:24 PM yea my header primary to secondary gasket has leaked for ages. I have tried pretty much every way imaginable of fixing it, soda cans, soda cans with thermotec heat seal, napa's exhuast gasket material. thermosteel/mufflermend/bondos exhuast stuff (cant remember the name. I checked NAPA, Advance, and Autozone, none of them had anything to help me. the whole leaky primary to secondary thing is really annoying. does anyone know of any stores have a z32 gasket available?
tHe iLleSt RiCe 09-06-2006, 01:11 AM stores dont have the z32 gasket..ive checked..
so youre saying the soda cans didnt even work for you? how so? how many layers did you use? etc
thanks
