: Boost problems
92SE-R 04-10-2002, 12:31 AM Well, I connected my downpipe back to my exhaust today. Now I'm
having some boost issues. It will hit 3-4 psi, stop for a few
seconds, while I'm flooring it, and all of a sudden hit 9 psi. A few
days ago, I had everything the exact same way and it worked perfect.
In between a few days ago and now, I've had my downpipe
disconnected. It ran flawlessly with the downpipe disconnected. Now
I connected it again and this problem comes out of nowhere. Any
suggestions?

Rockwood 04-10-2002, 04:33 PM dude, ditch the 2" exhaust man! backpressure from that poor T25 making 9 psi AND the 2" exhaust is probably killing you. massive reversion with your C series cams, and the mega backpressure, could lead to extra high EGTs.....
also, check your plugs and everything else....when on an open downpipe, it is very hard to hear catastrophic engine failure until it fails.
92SE-R 04-10-2002, 05:45 PM It's not my exhaust or my plugs or anything. The motor is fine. It almost feels like while I had my exhaust disconnected, some mouse made his home in my muffler or something. It's hitting like 3-4 psi, then the backpressure builds up so the boost stops building, then the turbo is trying hella hard, and lots of exhaust gases come out, shifting the mouse's body around and like bam, im at 9 psi. It's weird.

Rockwood 04-10-2002, 05:55 PM sticky wastegate? could be open, and when the rpms build, it finally shuts again?
this is a mystery to me, unless there isnt enough load to create boost at low rpm
is it at a specific rpm every time?
Rockwood 04-10-2002, 06:04 PM oh yeah, do you need the money for the boost controller tonite? when were you meeting up with that dude again?
92SE-R 04-10-2002, 08:09 PM Just give me the money whenever you want the boost controller.
It's weird, it happens at any RPM's.

Rockwood 04-10-2002, 09:22 PM i think it is something in your exhaust, or maybe a vacuum line is pinched like mike said.
also, this is the first time running 9 psi on your exhaust right? that could be affecting spool up.
or are you running just 6 psi, but it spikes to 9?
the only thing that is wrong with the wastegate vacuum leak is that you would have MORE boost, not less, or hesitant boost.
i still think it is your wastegate being slow to react. first it stays open too long, then it closes, then it doesnt open fast enough, and thats why your boost is bouncing around, first down, then up, then its just right, just like that little white girl and the 3 bears. :D
try taking the boost controller off, just run it stock, if it still fucks up, then we will have to eliminate the other things, if it runs fine again, then.....
92SE-R 04-11-2002, 01:03 AM I still think some critter crawled into the exhaust. It's spiking to 9, not set at 9.

Rockwood 04-11-2002, 03:10 AM can i get the boost controller tomorrow terrin? (thurs) i will call you....
SENTRASER 04-14-2002, 01:06 PM What kinda cams do you have? The C seirse cams would have less vacume right? That may cause a problem.....don't you think?
just a thought, I'm a virgin at this turbo stuff...
92SE-R 04-14-2002, 03:10 PM Why would less vacuum cause boost problems? It's only less vacuum at idle.

Rockwood 04-14-2002, 07:06 PM oh yeah, hey terrin, the MBC fixed my low vacuum, i redid my hoses when i did it, and voila, 20 inches of vacuum again!
Rockwood 04-14-2002, 07:09 PM which would also explain the lean condition on cylinder 3, when at idle, there was a vacuum leak, and the nipple i used it right on the #3 plenum, causing it to burn lean at idle because of air entering the plenum that wasnt metered. which would also explain the jumpy idle.
92SE-R 04-14-2002, 10:48 PM Hmm....shitty rubber hose?
Rockwood 04-15-2002, 04:46 AM i think its the shitty silicon hose
