Unless you're planning to redo it at least once a year, it's not going to last. Short of high temp powder coating them, I don't think anything will last all that long. That high temp duplicolor paint sucks. I used their caliper paint kit and it was horrible. The best I've come up with is silver high temp paint intended for propane tanks, etc. Got it at Ace Hardware, and not only was it cheaper than the duplicolor garbage, but it has lasted a lot longer as well.

What about high temp paint that you use on exhaust manifolds?

i used hi temp white on my old b12's calipers rotors and drums......it lasted the length of me owning the car 1 1/2-2yrs. it got dirty quick, but washed right off.

I'm with Rob on this one. I used the G-2 kit on my upgrade... silver. The calipers have lasted just fine, even though they look dirty, but they are easy to clean... if you want to. But, anything you put on your rotors will not last. I used paint that was made specifically for this application and I've got to tell you... crap bubbled right off.

Before anyone says "you didn't prep it right, blah blah blah", I've done this on three rotor changes. My opinion is that the rotors get too hot and then cool down, too hot, cool down and it just abuses the paint, calipers don't get nearly as hot so the paint has lasted.

Meh, the reason he painted the rotor I assume was to prevent rust, not necessarily for looks... so thats cool, hopefully that lasts... rotor's do get hot-taaaa

i dont know about painting the rotors i think its gonna just come off. but u got nothing to loose.

for the cali's they look good.

i used the duplicolor caliper kit and they are still holding up to this day.

I hope i dont offend anybody but im glad people contribute but these How To paint anything should prob end. The tech library is filling up with goofy How to's and I think anybody who needs a write up to paint anything prob shouldnt do it.

But when the paint doesn't stay on the rotor it's not going to prevent rust.

I also LOATHE the Duplicolor line of paints... I have used the VHT Hi-Temp paints with better results.

From what I have seen in the past.. Its all on how you prep it and if it will last. I have used the high temp primer on many many projects and have yet to have any issues about bubbles and or pealing. This is why you do more than one coat and also make sure that you clean what your going to paint really good. Its as simple as that.

Well personally I don't believe in those kits just for the fast that they paint in two of the kits that I looked at and even open said nothing about "High temp" primer. And that is what makes the difference in it staying on.

I have seen many poeple along with my self use this high temp primer and then paint and clear on an endless amount of valve covers. And time again not many people have had any issues with it. And that cover it self gets hot and cools. Not as much as breaks but its a more constant heat.

Well I guess we just have to see.

Well thats the reason for the How to area. I personally don't think we need any how to unless they have pictures... but then again. It's an opinion and your right in this country is to have one. Fight the fight.

Like I said, the calipers are still looking good. I've always prepped, stuff to be painted, correctly. What would be the point of just slapping it on? I have little enough free time as it is, I sure don't want to use it redoing something.

I'm sure it looks good and it's kind of fun to do. Any time spent working on the car is relaxing to me, even if it's piddlin stuff.

To all those non believers on painting rotors, I've painted mine months ago when doing the 10.1" rear rotor upgrade, using wal-mart brand 94 cent flat black paint. I have yet to see they peel. I'm sure the front rotor get a lot hotter, but still, it will hold up.

ive done that same thing **.........eventually it will chip......then i redone them with the good stuff even horsepower tv reccomended........that duplicolor caliper paint kit that u actaully paint them with a brush.......ive done that and great results and long lasting.......works way better than those spray paints.........
