: Thinking about.............
blckse-r 07-04-2006, 12:00 PM Okay, I lately have been really thinking about selling the se-r and building a turbo b16 motor for my 99 si. I mean from the ground up, sleeved....everything. I wanna do around 500whp. I go on honda-tech a lot lately and just see tooooo many 10-11 second hondas on there. It is too many to count. I wanna have a big turbo car, but I dont want the tranny issues the se-r's have. Also the top end of a honda motor is just unmatched by the sr20. I know, go ve and turbo. But with that I would have all this money invested in the older car. I am torn, I know what kind of answers I am going to get on this forum, which I love, but I'd thougth I throw it out and hear some responses to my craziness:biggthump
Jackson Diamond 07-04-2006, 12:05 PM Build the Honda. THe aftermarket support and options are unmatched. Overall the honda motor is a better motor if you are gonna build it. If I did it again I would have built a Honda. The people on this forum that say Hondas are junk and have no torque dont really know anything about building a car. If you dont care about being one of the honda crowd then build it.
blckse-r 07-04-2006, 12:09 PM wow, not even close to the response I thought I would get. Yes, I know what the lil b16 is capable of. The less torque just seems to help the et's as less wheelspin with a nutz top end. I have already seen a 630whp b16 with stock bottom end on honda-tech, now that is crazy. I will build mine to take that kind of abuse.
SE R Madness 07-04-2006, 12:20 PM I feel if that is what you want to do shoot for it. I don't have problems with hondas, just the people who drive them.
SR20RACER 07-04-2006, 12:25 PM Do it, sell the cult followed se-r for the dime a dozen turbo B16. :) If you want to do it, do it. Don't forget that you will see a ton on 10-11 second Civics because there are about a million of them driving around. 10,000 of those are bound to be fast.
PS: If you really want 600hp WHY whould you want it in a FWD car at all?

Dont get me wrong the sr20 is an amazing motor. But when it comes down to rebuilding the motor I would take the B series motor anyday for the aftermarket support. I built my motor to put down 600whp and did the same amout of work I would have done on a b16 or b18, even more. You can do 600hp on the stock head on a b16 with the sr20 you would need a ve head or a bad ass port and polish job on the stock head to even think about 600hp.
civicdragon 07-04-2006, 01:23 PM i say keep the ser and build that.. do you really want a 500whp daily driver? seriously.. all the honda owners i know have no a/c no p/s nothing... trust me a/c is a good thing.... your better off doing a little more work all motor to the si to keep as daily driver
Reality sucks 07-04-2006, 01:30 PM why, build at all, buy a honda and do a k20a swap, those are real nasty from what i hear... a friend has a built b16a turbo, in his 92 hatch, got roasted my a k20hatch recently, just my two cents. but aside from that, keep sr and build ,tons more fun i think plus no bad rap sheet as associated with most honda owners

You can put down 600whp on the stock head because the engine revs alot higher and produces it's VE alot higher. It's not hard to make 600whp when your engine sees 9000+ RPM.
Who the hell would want 600whp in a Civic or SE-R anyways. It's too powerful for enjoyment on the street. At that point it's nothing more than someone's e-penis extension car.
Different strokes for different folks I guess.
turbomrdeuce 07-04-2006, 03:21 PM honestly i wouldnt build a honda unless i was on a budget. But then again the 99 si electron blue are my fav honda so i would probably build the si. Plus you can get most of your money back out of it if you sell it and i havent seen the same with sentras

oh how true indeed, couldnt have said it better myself
SERprise In WV 07-04-2006, 04:31 PM It will be a useless car 99% of the time. Even with slicks on, it will be close to useless.
B14 Se-Rious 07-04-2006, 04:36 PM you guys see taht one hatch, it has a k20 in it with a gt35R stock bottom end with cams. He made 470whp at 12 psi, he ran a 11.2, it was in an eg. That is crazy stock motor with 12 psi running that time. We boosted my friends gsr, its pretty quick. I myself am a honda fan too.
Killdannow 07-04-2006, 04:56 PM ok maybe i am ignorant, but where are you guys getting this shit from?
I have never heard of a honda motor making it over 300hp stock. Maybe they have different ideas of waht stock is. A V motors crank will never be as strong as an inline motor. Yeah our head sucks but a ve head is fine :) The point of the sr is that you can take it up to like 500 for real stock not for fake honda stock. Sleeves are not stock ;)

my old h22 integra made 341 with just a small t3 on 9 lbs---swing thru e-town and ull see a 325 whp b16 stock ass crx that we built///all we did was double the head gasket..arp head studs and its done...325whp in a 1900lb car is sick..
turbomrdeuce 07-04-2006, 06:59 PM ive seen hondas make over 300whp on stock bottom end boosted. But ive never seen those last. hondas stock+turbo kit= boom. my buddy has a gsr turbo he just slapped a turbo kit on it ran a 12.9 in a integra at cmi but blew it up not long after. Well hondas 2 arent very rare cars but for some damn reason people are willing to pay some good cash for them.
t bags 07-04-2006, 07:02 PM i drove mines every-day for 2 years...it did break 12.8 but after so much tuning/dyno time i got bored....that and the fact that they tried to steal her 7 times in 2 weeks-----

lol thats the number one reason i dont have a HOnda
cutter 07-04-2006, 09:30 PM my friend had a jdm b16 and he put 10 psi through it and it mad 300 whp and 200tq. it was a "safe tune" according to stoney at velocity in dallas but that bitch gernaded in 3 months. the smart thing to do would be to keep a car reliable to daily drive and then have a car you work on. if you dont want tranny issues buy an open diff b15 and put a nismo lsd in it. hondas have more problems with syncros going out ext. a k20 is not a good swap unless they have fixed the 2nd gear problem in the trannys. yes they are fast but 2nd breaks after 2 passes on slicks.
summary- keep 1 car to daily drive build the other, your choice, but if you build the honda dont forget your wing and under glows.
spdracerUT 07-04-2006, 09:47 PM I agree with Nismo-Freak, a high HP FWD car is pointless. If you want that much power, build a RWD car.
If you do decide to build a Honda, do the K20 or K20/K24 hybrid. The K20 is a much better motor/has more potential than the SR20.
