...or amatuer. My Se-r has some scuff marks on the bumper cap, and I would like to try and correct the problem using the Dupli-color aerosol touch up paint I purchased at NAPA. Here are my questions:
1. Do I need to do anything to prepare the surface (other than making sure it is clean)?
2. Should I apply a clear coat after the color application?
Any other pertinent thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

I would use either a scotch brite pad to scuff up the area you're going to paint, or use some 600 grit sand paper. It sounds like you only have minor scuffs and if that is the case, I'd try buffing the area first with some Mirror Glaze and a buffer. If that doesn't work then I'd scuff the area as mentioned and then use a clean lint free rag or a tack cloth to wipe clean the area and apply a light coat and let it fully dry then repeat with another coat which should cover but not be heavy. Each consecutive coat should only be applied after the previous coat has dried fully and each coat should overlap the previous one by about three inches. Then once the paint has had a day or so to cure, I'd buff the area, as you're going to have overspray, which is fine, because masking off the rest of the bumper to prevent overspray will only create a ridge where the overspray piles up and then you'd have that to deal with. Hope this helps. Feel free to mail me if you want more input.
