I noticed when looking at the cam sticky that the SR20VE cams have more aggressive low profile cams. How much low end did you guys lose when switching? I LOVE the low end power of my VE over my DE, something I can't stand to give up. :(

to be honest i have no idea what it looses. but ill tell u this all that matters is above 4500rpm. your rev limiter is 8200 if playing it safe so u still got 4000rpm plus of high lobes to play with.

you speak strictly towards a racing/performence standpoint. half of the reason i went VE was for the daily driving aspect, the other half being it's more managable power for autocross. once you hit 2nd gear on most tracks you find yourself below 4000 RPM a lot.

you didn't need to tell me that the top end was better. :D I already knew that.

my question was about the bottom end. ;)

My car on the low lobe (SR16 cams) is very responsive. Not bad at all.

I am able to supply as much timing as I want to my car so I know that helps. The car is pretty tough on the low lobe them the high lobes kicks over and all hell breaks loose :D

Here is another source of data. A few years ago, Steve Foltz did some dyno work to compare the SR20VE and SR16VE cams. The data have been posted inthis forum and are plotted here in Excel. One of the runs with the SR16VE cams was done with a test pipe instead of a cat. Unfortunately, something went wrong with the SR16VE run with the cat (the yellow one).

These data show a loss of 5-7 foot pounds of torque before cam switch over. The switch over point is not optimal, so it's hard to tell what would happen if it were.

I switched to 16ve cams and ecu, I have a 4.1 final drive. My car has more useable torque from about 1300 rpm through to when it tells me to stop, no question end of story.
