I can't seem to find the answer to this question anywhere else, so I figured I'd ask here. I know some of you SR20DE owners have higher compression pistons, and I was wondering what kind of gains they provide. It's come to my attention that I can get some 10.5:1 or 11:1 pistions for my GA for a decent price, so I wanted to know what kind of gains I may get from these, or at least the gains a SR20 gets so I have a general idea.

Depends, what kind of plans do you have for the 1.6? If you want to go fast and keep it streetable just swap in an SR20. If you want to be the fastest 1.6 build the motor and turbo it.

I would not waste my money. You can buy a JDM SR20de 10:1 engine for $500.00 to $600.00 range. You'd be happier and faster

If you want another opinion ask to speak to Mike at Motivational Eng. He had tricked out his GA16de and should be able to help you.

Mike's the one that gave me the idea when he posted on the regular sentra performance mailing list. Right now engine mods are pretty much the last things on my list. I'm concentrating on getting all my suspension and brakes and roll cage and stuff done right first, at least enough to get me prepared for some solo1. My plan was to learn to drive well with what I have now before I go get more power. I figured once I really decided to go faster the options I would go for are the SR20DET, SR20VE, or SR16VE swaps, and I'd have the money next year when I graduate. The main reason I'm asking is because I've never seen any actual before and after numbers from someone going to a higher CR, and I'm curious.

Although the easiest and cheapest thing to do would be to take my roomate's car while he's away for the weekend with his GF and swap the motors with nobody being the wiser, except when he gets home and steps on the gas.

what gains does the sr20 get and about how much does it cost to get that done?

are you talking about high compression pistons, tg?
you need to elaborate. there are many different routes when it comes to high compression, the best ones involve boring out the cylinders.

I was refering to the original question that nobody has answered yet. I am not flaming anyone, but i figured if somebody didn't reask the question then all people would do is tell him to swap an sr20 in instead of messing with his 1.6. I am also interested in knowing what 10.5 or 11 to 1 compression pistons will do for the sr20 or even ga16 for that matter. Since i dont know enough about cars to do this myself, i was also wondering if anyone could give me an estimate of what a shop would charge for this. Thanks a lot. - Tom
