Anybody tried the OEM airbox mod, on the SE-R.net? I am about to try it, since I spent all my money on other stuff, and just got a K&N about a month ago. Just cutious how it turned out. Anybody?

The link on SE-R.net is a very trick deal, but it's pretty involved.

Zipties or even duct tape will get the airbox open and making a nice roar.

Done. I cut the whole bottom of of the stock box, so I could still use the clips to hold the filter in. Took about an hour to do the whole thing, and just cost me $5 for a new hacksaw. I figure it can't draw in any more hot air than a POP charger. Airflow is just as imortant as air temp, and it feels like it has a little better midrange now. I love it. Sounds great at WOT.

I recently removed the plastic pipe fron the resonator to the airbox. Shouldn't this do the same thing w/o cutting? I know the little hole is somewhat restrictive, but from other things I've read there are other spots in the intake path that are just as small. I'm asking mostly b/c the sound wasn't changed dramatically. If it is going to change much more by cutting I know a dremel up the street begging to be borrowed =).

There was a BIG difference in sound after I cut my box. It GROWLS now at WOT. Idle sounds about the same, but when you get on it, you can def hear it. It's worth it in my opinion, just for the sound. I wouldn't try to cut the plastic box with a Dremel if I were you, unless you can slow it way down. The high RPM's cause so much heat that the plastic melts back together after you have already cut it. It's tricky. You can do it with a hacksaw pretty easily, and clean it up with a sanding wheel on the dremel like I did. And wear some glasses if you do use a dremel, unless you want your eyes full of little black plastic shards;)

Temporarily unbolt the bottom airbox and tape or ziptie the filter to the top half if you're thinking of anything permanent.

Same difference - the top will just flop around.

Ok, well I was very wrong. Removing that pipe to the resonator wasn't the same =). I used the duct tape method today and yea, it makes a BIG difference in auditory enjoyment of 5k+ WOT.

Yep! My car and I both wake up at the same time: the first bump of the fuel cut. It is to me what coffee is to most others =).
