: Clutch cable question

So, on the advice of my friendly Nissan tech that my clutch pedal was really stiff, and after driving Ben's and Nismo91's NXs that weren't, I replaced my clutch cable. It only cost $35, an hour, and some severely skinned knuckles (those of you with big hands, get help). However, the pedal doesn't feel any different. Anyone want to weigh in on this? Ben's pedal compared to mine is like stepping on a plum, really soft, and Nismo91 (Steve's) is somewhere in between, but closer to Ben's than mine.

TIA

Did you lubricate the point where the cable hooks to the clutch arm? Try that...just slap some wheel bearing grease on there...other than that, I don't know what it could be? Try lubing up the pin that acts as the fulcrum point of the clutch pedal...or it could be that someone didn't lube up the t/o bearing arm and such when the put a clutch in it...what kind of clutch do you have?

My clutch felt alot better after installing a new cable. The only thing is my clutch feels really gritchy.
It it slighty harder to push than some SR20 clutches but i think it is due to the old clutch in my car, and the fact that many points on my clutch havn't been lubed since factory installation

As far as I know it's the factory clutch. Should I lube the arm on top of the tranny, and if so with what?

did you replace the cable with an OE clutch cable? all others, even the NAPA ones suck. i had a napa cable and it was EXTREMELY stiff, switched back to the OE one and WHOA, feels like a whole different clutch setup. by the way, i have an xtreme pressure plate.

It's OEM, got it from Courtesy.

In 95% of the cases I've heard about what actually causes the gritch is lack of lubrication on the pilot shaft. The t/o bearing won't slide smoothly on it and thats what causes the stiff pedal and bad feeling. I'm going to drop the tranny on the NX soon to take care of this. I should have greased it up better last time :( BTW, I replaced the cable a few months ago and it made a marginal improvement in feel.

There is a saying...."You can never use too much LUBE" Well depends what you are using it on also =P

I don't keep wheel bearing grease around... What about white lithium? Good/bad, stay away?

Pretty much anything would work...any anti-sieze compound? Just use whatever you have laying around...or you could go buy a can of wheel bearing grease for a couple of dollars...

My uncle who has been a Nissan tech for like 15 years says to only use that black molybdenum grease in there. He says other stuff is too thick, and will attract all the dust, dirt and used clutch disc material, making your gritch come back sooner. Makes sense to me.

Hmm, maybe thats why mine came back after only 1.5 years. I think I'll try the moly grease this time. Thanks for the tip.
