You tell them you want to an ESN change and then you give them the new 11 digit number from behind the battery. Although they typically charge you $20 to call and do it, unless you are a dealer. You can do it on the internet for free though.

After you switch the ESN (electronic serial number) on the internet you just push *228 and choose option one to program your phone
