it's much easier to start with an se-r, even if it's auto and having to convert to manual. In my opinion.

It can take months to find the right SE-R. The one I have now kinda dropped in my lap, but the last one I had took 4 months to find. I drove a rusty beater SE-R while I found it.

That was 4 years ago. Now I'd imagine it could take as much as 6 months to find a tight SE-R.

Get an NX if you can, they come with 4 wheel disc brakes and bigger front brakes. Plus in my opinion, they look better than se-r's.

edit: price for a somewhat good car is $1000 and about $500 for a tranny swap.

OR if you really want an SE-R that's been cared for, not just a runner, you can ante up $2-3k. I saw a B15 egg go out the door for $5k a bit ago, but it was VERY well done and was very decidedly not stock. You have two kinds of folks on the forum (an oversimplification, of course) - those who just want beater crap (note the popularity of the "what's the cheapest SE-R you've found" thread) and those who actually like cars. Decide which one you are and go from there. I don't have a remote clue what goes through the heads of the former, but then I don't understand why people play golf, either - - -
You have some of the best REAL car guys in the country down there in that town - Serban and Andreas Miko for two - get in touch with those guys and learn from them.
