OMG, the first time ever the Turbonetis white 2001 Celica ever runs the quarter mile, 1sr round qualifying here in gainesville. The car ran perfectly straight, shot like a freaking arrow. Nobody expected it. The car ran a 7.3@199.94mph, OMG, too impressive, I am still in awe. The car tomorrow will surely run a 6sec pass and a 200mph trap speed, winning the summit sport compact purse. OMG, sorry I didnt get pics, I am too poor, OMG, I still can't believe what I saw. A 300ZX ran a 7.4@178 to 185mph, to get second or 3rd place. Jesus. Also, Jo Jo callos lost control of his car 3/4 of the way down the track, and almost took out the wall and kenny tran while at it. He somehow managed to wobble the car 4 times, go into the other lane, and do a 180turn in the middle of the track starting at 130mph or so. he ended with a 10.51@30mph, pretty sick stuff, watch ESPN or ESPN2 soon for the event, too amazing,

YEs, RWD, tube chassis, Toyota V8 with two T78 or so turbos. The impressive thing was the traction, it was too perfect, the car was like an arrow.....omg, just thinking about it makes me shit bricks,

Yeah, that thing is about as much of a Celica as I am Eddie Murphy. It's not a Celica, it's a standard tube frame RWD drag car with a Celica painted shell on it. Just like the tube frame RWD Focus.

I know you are right, but nonetheless it's impressive. :),

Somehow it is still considered an import, I really do not consider it a Celica though, just a import V8 pwrd import. Is that 7second purple 300zx pwrd by the VG30DETT?

yeah, the 300Z has a VG30DETT

it was originally desinged back in the early 90s as a road race car, and was converted for drag use.

i think the Z is more representative of the real car than the "celica"

These are full race drag cars.. there suppose to be tube framed. To get this fast its what u need. + the Yota is a V8 toyota motor..
its totaly legal and there will be alot of more V8s coming out this is a japenese v8s not domestic..

well, greg, remember the naysayers who said FWD cars will never hit 10s, or 9s, or 8s, or 150 mph and so on?

i dont think FWD is such a traction burden with wheeliebars and modern suspensions. as long as the suspension is stiff enough to prevent weight transfer, traction will be the same, if not more, as a FWD car has the weight already over the correct axles, and does not require weight transfer, creating more initial bite.

plus, a FWD car has better drivetrain efficiency as it has less rotating mass.

and there is a replacement for displacement, it called packaging and curb weight.

now, i think that a FWD car hitting 4s will take quite some time, if ever, but 6s or 7s shouldnt be too far fetched, all we need is time and money.

on a lighter note, i put it up to 9 psi yesterday, and pulled about 5-6 cars on a 1998+ Camaro SS. i lay about 15-20 feet of rubber in second gear from a roll now.

and yes, he was trying, he tried to pass me in a merge lane, revved up on me, and laughed when i revved back. the money i spent on the turbo was well worth watching that damned smile fade as i proceeded to tear him a new asshole. plus, he had a girl in the car with him.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha thats why i love fwd imports. you spend half the money and rape the v8 the mustangs corvettes its worth the headaches and installing a turbo! i remeber a time my friend in his vr6 turbo rape a porcshe that have to feel good.

You spend half the money to rape V8's? Eh.....NO. It's FAR cheaper to make domestics fast in a straight line.

That's nothing.. you should see the look on their faces when their t-tops shoot 20 feet into the air in the middle of a race... Ah.. the power of NOS.

YOUR RIGHT! about the v8 in a straight line. but im talking about highway raceing. they can't mess with the handleing the imports dish out.

That's dumb. You think you can outhandle a F-Body?

Terrin's totally right though. The F-bodys have most imports schooled in every category - minus the super imports (Supra/300zx/RX-7) but even thats pretty close. Well except in gas mileage and price :)

let me say this dollar for dollar a import gives more bang for the buck overall. for driveablity, price, value, resale value, now if you want to go into spefics yeah maybe v8 would win in some catorgies. now as for the f body can you put a child seat in the back? im looking for overall value not just one thing. but to each his own.
