Personal opinion here, a cheap part does not always mean, a good part. Especially when you are dealing with composite based parts. There are a million ways to screw up a part like this, and a million ways to cut corners that might not be so obvious. Now, I have heard the Fiber Images sells very good, full carbon hoods, you might want to look into them. But, if you want a pitted, heavy, one layer of carbon over chop strand mat peice of shit hood, then by all means, search for the cheapest hood you can find. Ask around, and see if you can find someone who makes good ones, then find the lowest price on their hoods.

This Guy is right. Most fo the time it is best to pay for the quality. I received a red/black carbon kevlar hood from Fiber Images and it is the best quality I have seen. Everything fits perfect and I am completely satisfied. I paid 625 with no complaints. I have done 3 major shows since March and all the reactions are the same. People are amazed with the hood.

For those who are getting a carbon hood, here is something to think about. No carbon or kevlar comes in any colors except for black, white<---unprocessed carbon, and yellowy tan. THE CARBON HOODS WITH COLORED WEAVES ARE IN FACT CARBON(BLACK) AND A NYLON OR POLYESTER (COLORED STARNDS). Sorry if I rained on someones parade.

Does that make the color ones heavier. If so by how much you think?

Okay now we are going to get into a long disscusion. The weight of a carbon fiber hood is dependant on 2 thing.
1.) The K of the carbon
2.) The Matrix of the carbon
In or to understand carbon fiber you need to how it is made. Basicaly graphite is streched under enormous pressure and heat to create a cured carbon. From white to black. This carbon strand is called a fillament. The way carbon is weaved is called a K weight. 1 "k" is 1 thousand fillaments per thread, 2k is 2 thousand, etc. Most carbon products that are not stress bearing are a 3-8K. I've seen hoods have up to a 20k. The more the K weight the heavier, and stronger the stuff is.
The matrix weight is well the binding agent. Ever done fiberglassing? The resin is made up of a polyester compound(it varies between manufacturers, and only has a shelf life of about 1 month) Most matrix for carbon are epoxy based, and lighter.
The weight of a carbon fiber hood with colored strands will not weight all that much more, maybe a gram or 2.
All I was pointing out was it is not as strong as a solid carbon, or carbon/kevlar hood. Sorry for rambling...I love composites. Hope that answers your quetion. Oh, by the way only 2, yes 2 factories manufacture raw carbon fiber!
