: New Exhaust Tip
Rittmeister 04-14-2002, 07:30 PM Well, I got tired of looking at the Pacesetter tip sticking out past the bumper and being yellow (sooty yellow) so I chopped it off and replaced it with a much more unobtrusive Pilot Motorsports 3" angled tip. It sort of peeks out from under there now, it barely clears the bumper lip. BUT, I'm trying to decide if it's louder now; the PS was louvered all the way to the tip, and the new one is resonated and glasspacked. It's a deeper sound for certain, kind of cool, but I'll have to decide in a few weeks whether I need to put a bigger resonator on, the PS one is tiny.
Just wanted to put out an option for the other PS cat-back folks.
Hope to have pics soon.
playatx99 04-14-2002, 07:41 PM yeah I did the same thing back when I had the pacesetter catback on my car, only I used a 2.5" pep boys special tip that I had layin in the garage...looked stealth, but it was a lil louder, heres a pic:

Rittmeister 04-14-2002, 08:48 PM My new tip is a little bigger, angled, and the car is black. Other than that you have just provided a pic and now I don't have to ;)
Seriously, same deal.
eric96ser 04-14-2002, 11:08 PM The reason its louder is because it doesn't clear the bumperall the way. Now, some of the sound is "trapped" under the car, and its using the trunk area as an enclosure. I have the same proble with my Courtesy muffler. I'm going to add 1/2 inch to 1 inch of pipe to make it stick out more.
Rittmeister 04-14-2002, 11:10 PM No kidding?!? How are you going to add pipe, I might end up doing the same thing.
eric96ser 04-14-2002, 11:14 PM I'm going to work on it this week. I'll take pictures.
Rittmeister 04-14-2002, 11:26 PM I look forward to seeing them.
I think part of the problem also is that due to the way the new tip clamps onto the pipe, there's not a good seal around it. I'm investigating ways to seal it up but haven't come up with anything I'm satisfied with yet.
jomama 04-15-2002, 11:02 AM i have/had the pacesetter cat-back on my car, but i swapped out the muffler for a dynomax 2.25" straight thru. the sound is different, but whether or not it's better is dependent on preference. i personally like the sound better. i put a 2.5" borla tip and replaced the resonator with a thrush glasspack. i still get the drone at 70-75mph, but normal street driving is acceptable, to me at least. the car growls pretty good at WOT, but the noise level is pretty tame otherwise.
nismo91 04-15-2002, 03:12 PM Rittmeister! I have an HKS cat back and it sounds really deep tone, but not LOUD. I'll take a pic and e-mail it to you. I know several peeps here that have the same one.

You can actually go to a mom/pop muffler shops and they will do a custom (press bend) pipping for your car if you want. If you want to extend the length they can do *** as well. This is how I did my exhaust on my NX, which you drove that saturday. They will worry about the hangers and whatever need to get the job done. But always ask around first about your prospective shops. If you want mandrel bent it will cost A LOT!!!

playatx99 04-15-2002, 10:27 PM thats why you buy the pacesetter... 2.25" mandrel bent for $140, including muffler. just cut it off and put a decent muffler on there and youre set

Amen, I've done that twice on my SE-R's.
Rittmeister 04-15-2002, 10:34 PM Someday boys, probably this summer, or when the muff rusts out ;)
