I first want to thank SmoothDaddyFig for the cam install packet. It really helped me out bro!! And thank you to Tevs and Bob for helping me out with it.

Now for the good stuff. That cam KICKS ASS!!!!!!!!! The car pulls so much harder above 5000 rpms. It now feels like the car was meant to feel like. I ran it against one of my friends that has a 200sx with a POP and Greddy exhaust and the cars were side by side. If anyone has access to one of these it is definetly a worthwhile mod. On May 18 I will be taking the cat to a dyno and I will post the before and after numbers for it. A few weeks ago the car was at 128 WHP and 124 of torque, with a POP and 2 pulley set. So we'll see where its at in a few weeks. Wish me luck!

yea, thats exactly how i felt after i put my jdm cam
before it would go to redline, after it pulls to redline.

definitely the best mod I did for my car. I noticed that right at 4000 it started pulling hard and pulls up to red line, instead of pulling till about 6000 then dieing off.

I would say so too, when done properly. That was one of my favorite upgrades.
I heard the low end loss is substantial somewhere. I even think I saw a dyno, from a G20, but I didn't really feel any.
Besides with the ecu and header, its at least a well placed (and cheap) power trade-off.

Cool man... did you get a chance to install the stillen rear stb yet? if you haven't figured it out, its Jack who sold you the stb.

i think the cam is definitely worth it to us 95+ peeps. next on my list the g20 ecu. with that 91 cam in, i keep making hp up to the redline. yeah, the drop in torque is a bummer, but i really couldn't tell (i guess my butt dyno is out of calibration :D).

I never did the swap but drove a b14 when I had my 92 SE-R and there was a huge diff between the two. Yeah the b14 was a little smoother at idle but my 92 was way better. A great swap for sure.

is there any sure way to tell the difference between the 91-93 cam from the 94+ ones? i know that there's supposedly a color stripe on shaft but i was wondering if the letters/numbers stamped on the shaft meant anything. just curious.

bennitto,
when you say 91 cams, do you mean 91-93? i have a 94 classic and swapped the cam for a 91-93 one (not sure which one). i thought the stripe on the shaft was yellow. not positive.

Nah, a lot of cars showed up to our mini geek-out, plus I was too busy giving people rides. Umm I mean breaking the cam in. :)

To be honest with you man I was so zoned in on the install that I didn't even notice the color of the stripe. But there is a noticeable difference on the size of the lobes on the cam. I know that doesn't help you out much since your cam is in the car.

OH SHIT!!!!

And rigth after, and I quote,"Man I need an engine swap"

Jo; I meant 91-93. 94 Se-r's have low port's, at least some do I'm not sure. So you would be ok with either.

Dan got a JDM cam that was painted different than either of our usdm stock cams. iirc it was a purple stripe? That has more agressive lobes than the usdm high port cam.

It is supposed to be even better, if it is an intake cam from a 10:1 primera. Just what I heard.

Martin,

Im glad I was able to help you out. I know its an abundance of infomation but its all from different points of views. Lots of INFO.
I enjoyed my cam for the 2 days I had it till I spun a bearing.

The stripe was either yellow or green.
I forget which. If anyones else wants a copy of the packet e-mail me and I'll reply back with the Cam Packet.

smoothdaddyfig,
yellow or green is what i wanted to hear! actually, when i said yellow, i meant to say green. but with all the oil on it and stuff, you can hardly make out the color of the stripe. all i know is that it wasn't red.
for some reason, i haven't noticed a 'significant' difference from my previous cam. i even double checked my original cam for the stripe to see if perhaps the previous owner already did the swap, but it doesn't look like it. what i did notice is that the car sounds (dare i say) like a vtec above 4000 rpm. hmm...maybe i just need to drive the car a bit harder to notice it. thanks for the info!

Very easy to notice the difference in cams the earlier ones have
53J printed on them

when i got mine i did a search on the cam to get the correct info

What is this "cam packet" I keep hearing about? What is in it?

Its just a collection of notes and instructions. It has 2 different step-by-step cam install procrdures, and some tips and notes. It is a great way to get familiar with the procedure. That way when you get down to it, you wont be surprised by anything. Some things are repeated, but it all was very helpfull. The install took me about an hour with no problems.
