: My Aztec Red headache...a work in progress (lots of picts)
vaypourus 07-25-2006, 12:12 AM Thought I would document this here until I get my website up and going.
This will kind of explain itself as I go along. Anyways...

There she is down in Jersey where I found her. I crapped my pants when I saw it sitting in a lot of cars among. Its a '92 SE-R with 177k on the clock, but pretty solid shape all things considering. I couldn't call while I was there (it was Sunday) and I left the next morning back to New York, some 400 miles away.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/vaypourus/P1000408.jpg
I called that morning on the way home, and crapped my pants again when I found out he wanted $800 for it. As you can see, I wired a deposit and returned 3 weeks later to get it without even test driving the car. I talked him down to $750 because of some interior problems.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/vaypourus/P1000436.jpg
Once I got her home, I stripped the interior and replaced most of the interior parts with new/better ones.

The inside of the car was filthy...this is after I scrapped out about an 1/8" of black shit under the rear seat.
coryb13ser 07-25-2006, 12:19 AM looks like its in great shape, nice find for 750.
nismo94tuner 07-25-2006, 12:22 AM Awesome! Paint and body look to be in good shape. Keep it that way! Man, I need to take a trip up there one day. I gotta take a mini vacation and have a good SR20 day. Lol..
JDM_Freak 07-25-2006, 12:22 AM Very nice find
You are lucky, ive been searching and searching for something like that
vaypourus 07-25-2006, 12:24 AM I ended up driving her for the summer, but lost spark to the 4th cylinder and toasted the exhaust and head pretty well. No, that is not chocolate syrup under the valve cover.

So, this spring, I brought her into the shop to begin the restoration. This is the last time she would be complete and stock.

Scott (black91 here on the forums) and myself pulling the old motor.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y295/vaypourus/P1000591.jpg
Found a much fresher motor in the local junk yard with 78k miles in a recently totalled '92 NX. Unfortunately, the kid that owned this car died in the accident. On the good side, I got the motor, tranny, and all engine bay parts for $300. I like to think that he would be happy with what I am doing with his motor.

Old motor out!!!

nismo94tuner 07-25-2006, 12:35 AM Damn, I'm missing out on a fun learning experience. That NX is a sad sight man.
vaypourus 07-25-2006, 12:42 AM The body has its fair share of dings, chips, rust, and to my chagrin some previous body work that needs to be fixed. I decided to stay with red so I would not have to modify the title and risk almost losing it again.
*for those of you who live in NY, and buy a car that was made in Tennesee, sold in KY, transfered to PA, and then sold from a NJ dealer, be prepared to deal with A LOT of paperwork. Upon my 6th visit, I became a little angry and was then escorted out of the DMV by a very nice officer, who nearly arrested me and confiscated my small ream of paperwork*
Anyways, I decided to go with Subaru Red Mica, with an extra shot of Pearl to enhance the red flake in the paint. Its a gorgeous color, and has a slight chameleon effect in different light.

After 3 days of prep, the engine bay is almost ready for paint. My body man is going to give her a light media blast (I think??) before painting the bay.

I also spent about 10 hours degreasing, acid bathing, hand brushing and buffing the new block in preparation for the paint.

hehe...look at those Prothanes in the background!

The block will be gunmetal to match my freshly finished B14 rims ;)

vaypourus 07-25-2006, 12:52 AM So...that is where I currently sit. The paint is in transit from CA, and in the meantime, I am sanding and painting many of the smaller parts, mounts, and brackets black so i can re-assemble ze motor and drop her back in. Once that is finished, I have to weld up this fancy 3" VRS SS kit and get all of my other parts into the car.

Bes- I am going to be dropping the motor in hopefully within the next week or two- could use a hand if you are intested in making the drive up here. BJ and Scott will have thier built NA and turbo classics out. Probably going to make a whole day of it...do a little grilling. Get in touch with me if you are interested.
OptimumSE-R 07-25-2006, 01:01 AM This should be the project of the month. Looking really good!!
blairellis 07-25-2006, 01:06 AM That "1/8" of black sh*t under the rear seat" as you call it, was sound deadening and comes from the factory to keep noise down. LOL.

You really think that I would be that stupid?? As you can see in the picture, the sound deadening is still there. The black shit was sticky and smelled like rotten mushrooms. So, unless Nissan is applying an extra layer of rotten mushrooms to the sound deadening, it was something graciously left by the previous occupant.
Many thanks for the props, guys.
shingouki1 07-25-2006, 01:26 AM you gonna turbo that sucker later on? *** 3"exhaust is big for a N/A de...either way, very imformative post. keep us updated and keep up the good work :D.

Very intuitive of you. yes....there is a turbo planned for the future, but I won't start that for another year or so. To do it right will cost me about 8-10 g's....but then again, it won't be a T25 either.
2dr_sentra 07-25-2006, 02:20 AM 3" inch exhaust is over kill if you dont have s4's or something bigger and or turbo. but nice project, im about to start a project car here real soon.

I know....but why buy an exhaust twice? That VRS kit is cherry, and saved me a lot of money by going with the group buy. Now, its one less thing I have to change when I start turboizing her.
wow love the car...i am looking for something like that ...CHEAP..:D
Ricer_X_01 07-25-2006, 11:46 AM wow nice work so far :biggthump im interested now to see how it all comes out.
Jaketips42 07-25-2006, 06:21 PM Lookin good! Seems like a nice classic for the money. It is a sorry sight seeing that NX and hearing about the kid.
vaypourus 07-25-2006, 08:15 PM Lookin good! Seems like a nice classic for the money. It is a sorry sight seeing that NX and hearing about the kid.
Yup....sure was. I remember seeing him out the first night he got it. It was a VA car, so it was essentially rust free, unmolested, and super low miles for its age. Unfortunetly, he lost control and wrapped it around a tree doing about 65. Like I said though; I made good use of the engine, tranny, AD22VF's and a bunch of other stuff. Some people think its bad luck, however I would want my car parts to be used if I totalled my classic.
Thanks again for the props guys...I still have a lot of work to do, but I will be sure to take more pictures as it goes along. I am hoping to re-assemble the motor and drop it into the car in 2 days next week. Its going to be a rush, but I need the motor in and running before we do body work and paint!
himbo 07-25-2006, 08:38 PM thats gonna be a sweet ass B13. but if it were me, i'd get the JDM bumpers, and put them on now, so the paint will match. sweeeeeeet:biggthump
