I say stick with 87 octane. You'll only need 91-92 octane if you advance your timing. ;)

My current plan is run 93 for maybe 1000-2000 miles. Since I just got this car, I want to get hte fuel system as clean as possible (changing the fuel filter soon). So 87 is what it recommands or is it 91? The owners manual list both numbers, wtf is that

The octane number on the pupm is the average of the two. the octane number is based on AKI (anti-knock index) and RON (no clue what it stands for) So basically different brands of fuels may be different even though they have the same octane number. There are tons of people that run on 87 without a problem, but if you want to sleep better at night, run 89 :)

RON+MON / 2 = Octane at pump

Sr20s run fine on 87 stock

91+ if you advance timing

NA with advanced timing 87 is still ok. I've ran 87 on my 19 degree advanced 98 SE and 93 NX with no issues. Ran premium when I was turbo of course.

Me too, ran 87 on my 98 with 19 degree timing and nothing was wrong.
