i got my car running and made it home today. FINALLY!!! but small problems, the idle is bad it drops down to around 500 and sometimes cuts the car off. The car is overheating badly i made many stops on the way home. speedo isn't working. So this post is like a rant a rave.

check your head temp sensor mine was messed up and it caused the car to run crappy like that... I bet thats what it is....

and to get the speedo workin, check the VSS plug...you know where that is?

edit: the fans work now but the motor is still over heating. I have the ga16 radiator on my car right now, dont know if i should buy a nx2000 rad or not. Thanks for the 2 post so far^^^ i so excited now i'm going to a keg or im already forgetting stuff thanks bye.

check the thermostat and make sure its opening to allow water to flow...if that doesnt work check the waterpump...

You really need a sr20 radiator in the car. The stock B14 SR20 works perfect.

how would you do that?

Replace the thermostat anyway, the engine has prob been sitting without water in it for a while and rusted up the radiator. $25 on a thermostat is better than a cooked engine

I have a VE on a B14 too, and the day I took it on the road, it overheated too. they told me is because maybe it had a buble on the warer system. but after the second ride, it was good, never overheated again. did you swap out the water temperature sensors from your old engine.(there are two of them, on the right side of the engine) if you didnt, you would be having problems with your temperature readings.

how would you do that?

Put thermostat in a pan of water, with a thermometer. Put it on the stove and turn up the heat. Watch the thermometer and see if the thermostat opens when it should open (my VE opens and maintains 170*F).

Check waterpump for obvious coolant leaks, etc.

funny enough i have seen this happen with my 'attempted swap' temp just keeps rising and rising, until it hits the mid way mark (not too sure about the exact reading in degrees...) and then it starts running terribbly! has all new temp sensors ect.. oh and have a koyo rad. but i am not too sure if i ahve air in the cooling system? but any who the man *** are going to deal with it. would love to see whatthe problem is though.

did not swap anything from my old motor. Took the car on a little test drive for a couple of sprints. The neddle never jumped up past midway. The car wasn't running for long though so not exactly sure if i still have the overheating problem. Idle is still alittle ruff though going to search now....

didnt swap anything? i dont know about the ve but when swapping a jdm de into a usdm car you need to change the temp sensor.. what ecu are you using?

calum tuned 95 se-r ecu( still playing with it, not quit exactly sure what to do with it :) )

ok well maybe you need to cahnge out temp sensors... when i did a jdm swap my car "overheated" and wouldnt run after that... swapped the sensor out and the car ran like normal... they are calibrated differently... dunno about the calum ecu though..

oh and the speedo is an easy fix.. there is a ground wire near teh area of the drivers side motor mount that connects to the trans.. this may be disconnected

At least hook up an aftermarket water temp gauge (or, a Techtom would be even nicer) to monitor what your real water temp is. The factory gauge is useless, as the middle range can cover 30-40-50 degrees F.

You need to swap the stock SR20DE water temp senders (two of them) over to your VE engine. If you don't, the car will appear to overheat as the senders use different resistance values.

yes i have 3 gauges to install. a/f, oil pressure and water temp. i know the a/f will be easy just need to splice it into my ecu wire.

will i be able to use the two water temp senders from a b13 sr20? Rob is parting out one and i was thinking of just getting them from him. or what about the ga16 senders?
