Find a local Nissan addict near you and tune it together :)

Would love to find one, but most SE-R people I have seen drive a really beat up one. They dont look like enthusist. As for my friends, they are into Nissans, but not the SR20DE. Do you know of any good ones?

Well this is a good place to find one... I am in CT, but I have 1.6L engine, although they're pretty similar and I could help you out when I get out of school in May

What exactly is wrong with your car?

Here is the deal. Got a 94 G20 with automatic transmission, 126K miles. Car makes a ticking noise at idle or any RPM (increases as RPM increases). It is quite loud. It just goes tick tick tick tick consistantly. About 2 every 1 sec. The car also feels sluggish at low rpm, it seems okay after I took it over 4K. (car doesn't smoke) (I have driven a 95 that has a good drivetrain, but bad interior). This car was sat for a month or 2. So I am guessing all the stuff is gunked up inside. I already have the following parts ordered and ready to change it

Air filter, fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor, spark plug (copper, not platinum), spark plug wires, PCV valve and new drivebelts. They are all OEM nissan parts

The car is currently not register, so I haven't driven it for long. I dont know if the noise will go away when its warmed or after a few hours of driving. I have put in some 93 octane gas already. I am hoping to get everything set this weekend and run it and do a few of those tune ups. I am just worried about that ticking noise. I am hoping the bearing isnt spun on it. Well I just want a mechanic who knows about this car to give me a complete look at it. The car is in Randolph right now, I live in CT. I just want to brng it to a mechanic to make sure the car is all set before i start putting 30K miles on it a year.

Thanks for the help

Well the bad thing about your situation is the fact that it is an automatic G20! I am not saying this in an offensive way, I am just saying because of a few situations that may have occured. Usually the original owners of auto G20's are older women or people who do not beat on there car. This causes clogging(not sure where or how bad). The SR20 is made to be revved, if it is not revved then you run into this problem. I have heard of a story about a infiniti mechanic getting a car with this same problem, he took it out and redlined it for about a few miles. The car ran a little better after that, also a tune up would be great(all oem parts). Have a good one and good luck!

I know that, this car is for my gf. So standard is not a good idea. Anyway the car is finalyl registered. I will be driving it for the enxt week because my RX-7 crapped out on me. It is overheating pretty bad. (210-230F) So I will be driving and tuning this G20. I would redline it a few times, but I am afraid the tranny will go. I will flush the tranny before I make an attempt of blasting the carbon out and get the engine nice and hot.

I am definitely doing a tune up. I alreadyu have all the parts ordered, just need to get here. Here is what i got

Distributor cap and rotor
Spark plug (copper) and wires
Fuel filter
K&N air filter
New belts
Changing oil and atf fluid
New battery

And eventually a new o2 sensor. WHat do you think, do i still need more? Some of the stuff i am going to put in myself, but other stuff I will have other mechanics do it. I met a guy from a east hartford speedshop that has a Sentra SE-R. I might have him help me do teh timing and the idle and the TPS since i am not all that technical with this car. But i should be able to do the plugs filters and fluid changes myself. Thanks for the help. Maybe you can help me out sometimes. Any advice would be great. I seriously dont know much about this car, i've been a rotor guy since 98

do all those things that you bought. I think your oil needs a change. You also might want to consider an stp engine flush, to get rid of the "sludge" build up.
It sounds alot like valve clatter. Just a dirty engine like mark mentioned. Use nissan oil filters, the have the drainback valve and cost less than Mobil 1 filters.

Get a timing light and bump up the timing to 17-18 degrees. This will gain you about 5 hp, and make the car a little peppier.

if you can change your oil then you can adjust the timng and tps and clean the throttle body.

Hey guys, I picked up a 94 P10 with 126500 miles automatic last week. I finally got it registered and drove it 200 miles back here to CT. I have 2 weeks to get the car back into good running shape for my gf. Here are the problems I have

When I start the engine, the valve area would start to make a ticking noise. From teh inside it is not that noticeable, but from the outside you can definitely hear it. When I start the rev the car, teh ticking noise increases too. Other than the valves, another noise would come up. It sounds like a squeeking noise from the belt/valves area. And the last noise i have is when i am at highway speed. Most of the time I would hear a "woooo" noise. I only get the noise when i am above like 40 or 50mph. It happens 99% of the time, but soemtimes it doesn't happen.

That's all for noises

As for how the car drives. The car is definitely down on power. Although the car can reach 6500 rpm with no problem, but it sure does takes its time. When I gun it, it will climb up the RPM slowly. The car is very very sluggish. Another thing I notice is that the power delivery is VERY VERY weird. Instead of climbing up the powerband consistantly, I can feel the engine make power for like 300 RPM, then it stops, then goes, then stops again. Although the engine never stops spinning, but i can feel the power is going that way. What can cause that?

As for the transmission, i flushed out the fluid. Now the fluid is okay, but i do get slips occasionally between 2nd and 3rd gear from time to time. Is there an adjustm, ent i can do to fix it?

Sorry for the long post, but i seriously need some help. Thanks
