I am curious what kind of mufflers you guys are running on your turbo cars? I want one that sounds good and doesn't drone. Actually the more quite it is the better. I have a guy here local that can do the 2.5" mandrel piping all I would have to do is aquire a muffler (however he does sell magnaflow). Can you recommend some brands and tell me the price, also I would like the tip to be no larger than 3-3.5 inches.

What type of cat-back systems are you running and what are the cost, same criteria above (no droning, tip 3-3.5inches, mandrel bent 2.5" piping).

I might get a 3" exhaust, but I don't think I will need it, the most power I will ever try to get out of the car will be no more than 320 WHP.

TIA

My buddy is selling complete cat-back 3" mandrel bent exhausts for ~$420 if you are interested. They should be relatively quiet.

will those cat backs be made for b14's and will they include a muffler and resonator?

Just got the exhaust on my car. It's awesome. It's quiet and doesn't drone. It's way too quiet for a 3" mandrel exhaust. At this time, there are no plans for a B14 exhaust unless we find someone to prototype it. I actually have an idea who we can use to prototype it. So, in the future there MIGHT be a B14 version.

Do you have any pics of your exhaust?

I'm running a 3" catback to a Magnaflow
muffler. It was pretty loud and also
droney. This past weekend I put in a
Dynomax Bullet as a resonator and some
Dynamat in the hatch. Much better! It got
rid of the harsh drone and cut the volume by
~1/3 Its still a hair loud for my tastes
but then again I could only fit a 14" muffler under the NX.

Mine came to $500 but that included a v-band clamp
to quick disconnect the rear section for the dragstrip or to be obnoxious :D

T25, yes, he can just sell the piping. PM me. We can work something out. Hector, there will be pictures up shortly. NXturbo, what length Magnaflow were you using? I'd be willing to bet you were using the 14" long one. I have the 18" long one. Makes a big difference.

I have 2.5 inch exhaust from the turbo back on my T25 DET 200sx. I am also running it without a cat and getting NASTY backfire when i let off the gas after boosting. Could anybody else not running a cat tell me any cons of doing so? or should i stick the cat back on. Thanks

You will lose about 15 horse power by putting a cat back on. Are you running a resonator? If not, get one. It will eliminate your loudness and back fire.

Since we're on the topic, can someone elaborate on why the placement of the catalytic converter makes a difference in power? Also, if I have to run a catalytic converter, where in relation to the flex joint and the muffler should I place it? Try and give me a ratio if possible since I'm installing this on an N13 Pulsar (stop laughing).

Why would a resonator stop the backfiring? A resonator is just like a mini muffler IMO. If a muffler doesn't stop the backfiring, then why would a muffler? I guess it might cool it down a BIT. The cat should go before the muffler and after the flexpipe.

the cat is the only thing that stops the backfiring, the resonator and muffler only muffle it a little.

the cat finishes off the combustion of fuel to reduce HC emissions, otherwise, any raw fuel build up in the exhaust, and eventually explodes.

Yep, its the 14". If an 18" will fit that would be cool! On the NX, as far as I can tell, it would be super tight and may even involve
trimming obstructions around it. Haven't tried it though so can't say for sure. Another trick would be to fit an additional 12" resonator after the 90' bend of the b-pipe. I think it doesn't help that the NX has no trunk to help insulate the exhaust noise as well.

The resonator killed all the Back firing I had. Basicly if you buy a Dynomax Race Magnum inline with your current muffler, That should solve the back firing. Remember the longer the quieter.

BTW if you have never seen the inside of a cat, look at one. It is like having a brick stuck in your exhaust. I Dyno'd a 15 HP gain after removing mine on the Talon. so :p

nah, i think it is the cat that stops backfiring, i know a guy running the exact same muffler/resonator setup you are talking about, and it sounds like a shotgun fired in the next room when it backfires, which it still does.

DSM cars have really tiny cats though, have you ever seen the size of your stock nissan cat? it is 2.5 or 3" in/out IIRC, unlike the slightly smaller than 2" cat your DSM came with.

i think losing your cat on a 300HP car would be worth 10 hp, tops.

No, you're all wrong!...Just kidding. I have a 2.5 inch exhaust with at good resonator and stock cat and occasionally my car backfires. It is not loud at all, but it still happens. Just a low POP sound. So...the cat and resonator and muffler just muffle the sound. I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong here, that backfiring can be a sign that you are running on the rich side, so if you're backfiring really bad then you are running too rich.

hey utah, ever get that oil consumption problem fixed?

a lot of people backfire because of BOV vented to atmosphere.

mine backfires a little when i get on it and suddenly let off the gas.
