Well after my car decided it wasn't going to boost past 4lbs earlier, I discovered that the 2 of the 4 nuts that mount the turbo to the manifold were completely gone and the other 2 were loose. Well I was able to get the front two tightened back down, but the one on the back side closer to the wastegate that was loose is a complete pain in the ass. I haven't even tried putting the other back one on. Any sugggestions on getting them tightened back down? I'm thinking a flex joint wrench might work for one side. I'm sure someone else has fell victim to this.

I use the shorty combo wrenches on those usually, seem to be the easiest way I have found so far.

It might just be easier to take the whole setup off the car. Also, do you have the stock locking plates on those nuts? If not, this'd be a good time to take care of that so it doesn't happen again.

I had the same happen to me... two nuts gone, the other two lost. I did have the stock locking plates..... too bad I didn't bend the tabs up to lock the nuts! D'oh. Either way, while the turbo was loose, it blew out the gasket between the turbo and manifold. So I took everything off, got a new gasket and put everything back together making sure to bend the tabs up on the locking plate. I must say that it went 4 years before getting loose!

Now that you all mention those locking plates, I didn't notice those on the two nuts that were left. I will get some shorty wrenches and maybe a joint style wrench and see what happens. I will use loctite on the nuts though as I don't have the locking plate. It doesn't appear to have damaged the gasket.

Ah young grasshopper.......... those locking tabs are worth more than the turbos themselves out on the street hahhaha.

You can make your own tab or with a quick trip to your local machine/bolt shop they can order the locking nut in that size.

Or you can just buy them from Nissan - they're not expensive.

The 200sx SE-R FSM has a tightening order for the J pipe bolts?

You should go over all of the bolts and tighten them back down after a little bit of run time.

Use lock washers on the j-pipe bolts and the locking tabs on the turbo/manifold nuts. Never had a problem with those. I'm still trying to find a solution to the manifold -to- head nuts.

my answer is the answer for you dave racer. the fsm for 200sx has the correct order in which to tighten the exhaust manifold bolts... use lock tight on the nuts as well for more assurance

I did tighten them in the correct pattern. Loctite does nothing at those temperatures.

Dave, do you know of anyone else with this problem? I've never had it on my DE, VE or DE+T.

Maybe it's your biceps.

I've never seen that happen before either. Did your downpipe have a flexpipe? Maybe your deltagate is too heavy j/k :)

what we do on our baja sand bugs, it's to put some black high temp silycon at the end on the stud, we do that on our headers and after a shaked race on baja roads, they doesn't got loose, just a tip
