This is my 2nd Optima in 5 years. Off load it charges 14v. Under load, it tanks and the Antilock light flickers. I admit I have not been driving her enough these days. But none the less still not holding charge. Year old alternator.

it really depends on alot. like if you have a system or were you live. I live in arizona and because of the heat a battery will only last 1 to 2 years or 3 if your lucky do to the extreme heat during the summer.

It is an unusual triple digit summer here in NY.

I've had mine for 3 years and bought a solar panel last year. Optima recommends slow charging (trickle charge) solar panels to charge the Optima. So, for $40 I keep mine on 24/7.

I'm pretty sure my alternator will go before my Optima.

The ones I've had all lasted 4 years or longer. If you don't drive the car that much, either put a trickle charge on it once in a while or just unhook the negative terminal and hook it up when you drive. Helps extend the battery life a bit.

Shit over 7 years on a red top and I handed it down to another forum member. the red tops only die if you deep cycle them. They are not meant to be completely discharged! For your application I would switch to the yellow top, that way if you do drain it, it is designed to handle it.

;) Kia Optima = Forever if maintained (I have one, and it runs GREAT). I have redtops in both cars, and they've held up in the El Paso desert heat for a few years now.

Man I've had my red top in 3 cars for 7 years.... I did one trickle charge this past christmas time when I did my B15 trans swap and other than that it works great! Even last year ( and this year ) when the winters got -20 started right up!

I have had mine for over four years in the Texas heat. It has been through one dead alternator so far.

if u dont drive the car everyday it wont last long. the shop has thrown away 30-40 of them last year. the blue tops are the ones made to be discharged to a nothing and recharged. i dont like them at all. went through 2 of them in my show truck and threw in the towel.
