: ES or OEM bumpstops?
pyrocrickett 08-01-2006, 01:19 PM I've heard phenominal praise for ES's bushings, but not much about their bumpstops. I'm getting a used set of AGXs with GC coilovers and want to know if a set of ES bumpstops would be better than cut/drilled OEMs (and I'm not even sure what condition my OEMs are even in so I may need to get new ones anyway). If I should get a set ESs, which ones? Looking on their website (http://www.energysuspension.com/pages/sk_bsp1.html) all I see is a big list of "universal" bumpstops, nothing Sentra-specific.
While I'm on the subject, if I do stick with OEMs, what do people suggest I do to them for the above setup? I'll be mostly using my car as my DD with only a few weekends of autoX.
featherweight13 08-01-2006, 01:53 PM dont buy the es bumpstops, they are too hard. the oem ones, in my opinion, are pretty decent actually. but dont use the ones connected to the strut boot.
actually, i just ordered a set of Ground Control bumpstops. they arent cheap, but theyre cheaper and more readily available than konis.
blurr.rt.by.you 08-01-2006, 02:10 PM get some vw bump stops theyre pretty much the same as the koni's and theyre cheap on vw vortex. i got mine for $10
pyrocrickett 08-01-2006, 02:20 PM the oem ones, in my opinion, are pretty decent actually. but dont use the ones connected to the strut boot. So I should get two pairs of front OEM bumpstops? What about just cutting the rear bumpstops off of the dust boots? (Since the dust boot won't fit under coilovers anyways, right?)

Do I just have to look through the VWvortex forums to find them or do they have a products page I'm missing? :melonscratcher:
blurr.rt.by.you 08-01-2006, 03:14 PM gotta hunt down a partout their forums are a lil hard to navigate through. u have to choose the chasis firts then search from there
pyrocrickett 08-01-2006, 03:19 PM gotta hunt down a partout their forums are a lil hard to navigate through. u have to choose the chasis firts then search from there So which chassis do I need to look for? Or do they all have bumpstops that'll work in my B13?

yep I'm using GC bumpstops and they're good quality.
pyrocrickett 08-01-2006, 07:08 PM Ok, I found 'em (http://www.ground-control-store.com/products/description.php/II=10), but which set is recommended? While $12 is hardly a bank-breaker, are these $12 better that my stock bumpstops? I.e. should I even bother?
brokeser 08-01-2006, 08:59 PM If you're "slammin' it" more than an inch lower than oem springs, I would say...yes. You need/benefit of some "Koni" type bumpstops...inmo

wickerbill 08-02-2006, 11:58 AM Yeah, which one would be the best ground control set to use? I have AGX's and Hypercos. Thanks.
STRATTON 08-02-2006, 12:04 PM im running the es ones. havent hit the bump stops since the suspension has been installed. but this i must say oem ones are crap and soffft.
i think for the price/quality the es ones are the simple choice.
stratton.
coach 08-02-2006, 12:15 PM I run the Koni bumps and they have been fine. They don't have a boot though, so something to think about. Some guys cut the bump off the OEM rear boots and put them in up front. I don't bother.

STRATTON 08-02-2006, 12:20 PM yeah. get es bumpstops along with 2 pair meaning 4 in total oem front dust boots and remove the oem bumpstops.
stratton.
pyrocrickett 08-02-2006, 08:02 PM Ok, I'm getting mixed messages here...
1. OEMs are bad b/c they're too soft so ES are good b/c they're stiffer
OR
2. OEMs are actually decent b/c they're soft & relatively short and therefore ES are not good b/c they're too stiff?
Intuitively I'm inclined to believe #2 b/c isn't the point of a bumpstop to cushion bottoming out? Wouldn't a stiffer bumpstop make bottoming out harder and more jarring??
And talking about Konis and GCs, am I right in thinking they sit somewhere in between the stiffness of OEMs & ESs?
(And remember, these'll be going on struts with GC coilovers, which I've heard doesn't leave any room for dust boots...)

For that set up go with Koni's. The part# is in here somewhere.

Also covers some pro's and con's..

#2 -- the OEM fronts are good. The fronts are, to touch and feel, very similar in composition to the Konis. The rears are molded into the dust boot so they are just rubber, and very different. ES bump stops are a lot harder than either of these. ES ins not a good choice -- again my opinion.
RacerX 08-03-2006, 04:47 PM Im still curious about the vw ones... might check the dealer this weekend...

i guess it depends on the driving you do. stratton hasnt hit them so for him the es bumpstops are just fine. i drive on a mountain road very aggresively and did not like the hard bumpstops. people seem to go with the VW idea so if youre on a budget i guess go with that, even sport compact car magazine went with that idea (or dave coleman created it). i bought the ground controls because i wanted a sure thing and the best i could buy. if youre planning to go stock bumpstops dont cut off the rears and use em, theyre too hard. as for dust boots...i guess thats up to you.
RacerX 08-03-2006, 06:55 PM so would you say that you were happy with the Ground control ones? Until the most recent link I never knew the part number or description for the konis... but I will admit after looking at the GC site, I think I might try them for ease of getting them...
