: RWD SR20DE Gurus
98sr20ve 08-01-2006, 04:58 PM I am ordering a complete set of everything for my SR20DE. Rods, Mains, Sparkplug wires, Cap, Rotor, Rear main seal, Plugs. etc. I just want to make 100% certian that all this is the same as the FWD SR20DE. I thought in the past some things were easier then what I found out later once I posted on this blessed forum. So before I pull the trigger I thought I should ask, just to be safe. I know the bearings are the same, I assume the seals for the crank are the same. Not 100% on the cap, rotor situation. TIA :biggthump
Rittmeister 08-01-2006, 05:02 PM Crank seals ARE the same. Front and rear.
Timing chain tensioner and gasket are the same.
Plugs should be the same - I'd be very surprised to find otherwise.
I do not know for certain about the cap/rotor/wires. I believe the cap and rotor are NOT the same; the wires could probably be made to work by rearranging, assuming they fit onto the cap.
The valve cover gasket (even the plug well donuts) are NOT the same.
Hopefully NissanTuner will chime in on the cap/rotor.
98sr20ve 08-01-2006, 05:32 PM Oh, crap. I thought the cap and rotor were the same. I really want to do a complete tuneup on this thing before I put it in the car. Maybe NissanTuner has a better idea for the cap and rotor. I never thought about replacing the tensioner and that gasket. Wonder if I should consider that.
jrbump 08-01-2006, 07:34 PM Greg V has always helped me with the FWD Vs. RWD DET stuff.
Rittmeister 08-02-2006, 12:36 AM FWIW, I'm planning to replace my tensioner before long, with the updated version. It may have to wait though; the car was making funny noises today and it's possible the driveshaft has finally given up, but I won't know until tomorrow :(
98sr20ve 08-02-2006, 09:26 AM Well if anyone cares the Sr Dist/Cap plugs right into my KA dist. So after I get it started with the existing cap/rotor/wires (which are old but servicable) I will try the KA stuff. I am also wonder why I was looking at the FWD SR rear main seal. I should be thinking rwd sr20det stuff.
doluck 08-02-2006, 09:29 AM I have an RWD main seal still I think ..... I was sent two when I ordered mine

Care to post the part number on it?
Oh, and too me the distributor looks the same on both engines. The plug looks the same for sure. I will know soon enough.
Rittmeister 08-02-2006, 10:32 AM Steve, I know for a fact that the front and rear main seals are interchangeable between FWD and RWD. I ordered from Courtesy when I swapped my DET in, and had a talk with Brian about it.
98sr20ve 08-02-2006, 11:16 AM Sweet, I am ordering from him as well.

It's true, we used ones for an Se-r on my rwd det. :biggthump

What?? Interesting.
I know for a fact, you cannot use a KA distributor cap on the SR20DE (S13) If memory serves me right, its almost identical, but the screw holes are off like an 1/8 of an inch. I never looked to see how the contacts line up, but I was disheartened it didnt bolt up, so I never looked further into it. was You say it pops on, I know it does "look" like it pops on, but it doesnt bolt up. Of course, maybe you can get away with one bolt, instead of 2..or get creative with how the other side is held on.
For spark plug wires, use either new KA's ( think about it, they are about the same size, same distributor location ) Or, FWD SR20DE plug wires are damn near identical. I lined them up one time just for fun. If you need new wires, I'd go with FWD SR20DE wires.
It looks like the rest of the questions were answered. I just spent 10 hours in the sun, so if there was anything else, my b, I'll check this thread when my reading comprehension returns.

Well, I tried it again and this time screwed it all the way on

.it still fits
I will check it for timing, etc when I get the sr running.
SERprise In WV 08-02-2006, 09:53 PM Steve--
Before you order the bearings, let me know which grade(s) you need: I have leftovers from a rebuild I did last year. Brand new.
Also have a FWD DE timing chain, brand new from Nissan. If it fits...
SoSideways 08-03-2006, 04:15 PM You say it pops on, I know it does "look" like it pops on, but it doesnt bolt up. Of course, maybe you can get away with one bolt, instead of 2..or get creative with how the other side is held on.
You can use a ziptie for the other side! hahaha :biggthump
But yeah, 1 bolt should do the trick.

It fits with both bolts just fine going from SR to KA. I assume the KA one will swap onto the SR. I will know soon enough. Swap starts the 14th. I just ordered all my parts from Brian and Courtesy Nissan.
SoSideways 08-03-2006, 04:25 PM I'm saying if you're stuck with only using 1 bolt only, that 1 bolt would still work, as a friend of mine has been running his SR20DET's CAS with only 1 bolt holding it in for the longest time, and he drifts his car all the time, so all the vibrations and such didn't loosen it or anything and it held fine.
As for the dizzies, which dizzies are we talking about here? The dizzy from a RWD S13 KA24DE fitting into the RWD SR20DE block with both bolts?
98sr20ve 08-03-2006, 04:38 PM I would never run a distributor cap with one bolt. It's plastic.
I said the cap and rotor from my sr bolted directly up to the distributor on my ka24de.
SoSideways 08-03-2006, 04:50 PM Ah....
That's cool.
I don't have first hand experience with that, so I wouldn't know, and I was just saying that a ziptie could work.
Anyways....
NissanTuner 08-06-2006, 10:32 AM I searched for my old thread comparing the 2 caps, the SR and the KA. It shows the holes don't line up. I tried to bolt the KA cap on my SR, and it didnt work.
Based on that, I have no idea how your getting your SR cap to go on to the KA distributor.
My mind is blown, back to packing.
