Hey, gang--

Between Mother Nature (bitc* she is) and my business, I haven't had time to do much lately. But, here's where we're at (many thanks to Serban for hosting these while the sr20de.org gallery is down) :
http://garnet.acns.fsu.edu/~sgg8661/greg/icpipes1.jpg
The driver's side of the intercooler piping is now done. I had one pipe welded, the rest are held together with Purosil lined hose, which is FANTASTIC stuff. The remaining pics show the path of my pipes on the driver's side...

http://garnet.acns.fsu.edu/~sgg8661/greg/icpipes2.jpg
I painted all the pipes with high-temp paint, and added beads around each end.

http://garnet.acns.fsu.edu/~sgg8661/greg/icpipes3.jpg
Here's where the piping comes up through the fenderwell, and heads for 'home' at the throttle body.

http://garnet.acns.fsu.edu/~sgg8661/greg/icpipes4.jpg
And into the throttle body, underneath the MAF and pop-charger. I hacked the BB J-pipe to angle right at the fenderwell. Then, I powdercoated it red.

http://garnet.acns.fsu.edu/~sgg8661/greg/icpipes5.jpg
This is how it all looks from above the driver's side fender. It's coming along nicely. Still...lots of little things to hook up under there.

http://garnet.acns.fsu.edu/~sgg8661/greg/t28out1.jpg
I finally got the GTi-R outlet pipe for the T28 from Wisconsin. See that black mark? It will have to be cut off there...

http://garnet.acns.fsu.edu/~sgg8661/greg/t28out2.jpg
...in order for the intercooler piping to run toward the fenderwell (just like on the driver's side). I'll attach that sawed-off 45-degree bend to it, and it will point straight at the fenderwell, right where I want it.

The car will now sit in this condition for the next 5 days, as I have to go out of town until Sunday. :( So....it looks like the car will be finished sometime next week. Then, I must go out of town AGAIN for 4 days. But, there's a drag race coming up on May 5, so I GUARANTEE the car will be done then.

There's my update, guys and girls. More to come early next week. For now...I'm on vacation. :)

What are those metal brackets that you have holding the intercooler called? Are you sure that they will properly hold the intercooler, they look kinda thin? That's one of my concerns, how will I mount my intercooler, I need ideas :) ... and pictures... hey great pictures though Greg, it's coming along nicely for you.. me I still need a bunch of parts and money :( ... but I'm getting there.

Jose--

Those metal 'straps' holding on the small BB intercooler are galvanized metal straps I found at Lowe's (where America shops for intercooler parts). :D

That IC will only be on there for about 1 month/3 drag race events. The straps are actually quite strong. Those, combined with the piping assembly, hold up the intercooler quite well.

When the Forge intercooler gets here in late-May, I'll bolt it up with stronger/thicker brackets from solid steel. It's a heavier intercooler, for sure.

Sam--

19 days and counting 'til......???? :) Seeya' at Car Wars on May 5, buddy. :D

do you think those straps would be able to hold my BB intercooler for more than a few months and plenty of drag strips?

The strips don't hold most of the weight. The piping does. The strips just support it. There is almost no weight on it.

She's coming together nicely, Greg!

If you are having any trouble with the IC routing
you can also use a combination of standard
radius ( 4" ) and tight radius ( 3" ) mandrel
bends. Compare your sources as the prices
for them vary.

Once again I say very nice!

Greg I will have to say that I love the routing of your IC piping. That is my biggest problem right now. On your B13 will your piping from the turbo outlet interfere with the radiator overflow tank/AC etc?? I would love to go to my passenger side on my B14, but I haven't figured out how to do it while keeping the AC and without rerouting the overflow tank.

Everything is looking great on your swap!!

...if you had any pictures of the piping on the passenger side. I was curious to see how that looks. I am going DET in my G20 thi summer with a STARION intercooler and Im pretty new to this turbo stuff.

By the way I almost forgot to mention, Nice car looks really clean!

If Eric would move my damn pictures back to the turbo forum where they belong, you guys could look at how I routed my piping. If you feel like searching for it, it's in the member's ride section.

About mounting the intercooler - I went to a couple parts cars I have and got 4 radiator mounting brackets. Then I just welded them on the bottom and bolted the top ones to the bumer support. It worked great.

Guys--

I'm on vacation through Sunday. So...the car is still some 500 miles from where I'm at right now. I have not done the passenger side piping yet. I'll start that on Monday. :D

What size piping are you using for your IC?

I'm using 2.5-inch piping. :D

Bluebird intercoolers have 2 and 3/8ths inch inlet/outlet. Close enough. The Forge intercooler coming in May will be 2.5 and will match up perfectly.
