I put an ES shifter bushing in my '91 this weekend, and man what a difference. I put oone in my '96 and never really felt it. Maybe it was because the '96 only had 40k and the '91 has 130k. Before, you cold almost flick the shifter into gear, and it never felt like it was in gear. Now its a positive feel when shifting. Best $5 or whatever it cost, I've spent.

I put my SMC short shifter and ES bushing in all at once and I must say what a NOTICEABLE difference it was. First few shifts felt different, but I became well adjusted to it very quickly and I love the feel. Shifting is effortless, the feel is firm and responsive.

that page will nt let me order off it and why is the price a dollar more for the 91-94 than 95-99 when they are the same shifter. Are not the bushings interchangeable?

da91nx: You should just call and order it. Ask them when you call why the price is different...unless anyone here knows.

After I got my pacesetter short shifter and ES bushing it didnt really feel any different except the short throws which I love. It just got really hard to get into 5th gear...

Hehe Chrissy, I see you made your time a lil harder to read, lol, it's get better.

Anyway, tomorrow I'm going to install my short shifter and ES bushing, and I just want to know if I need anything else besides what comes with the ES bushing in it's case... I hope it comes with lube.. if not what alternative can I use?? thanks a lot for any help

You don't need any lube on the bushing. It doesn't really move, so it won't make any noise. Every thing you need is in the box with it.

LOL, thanx domiguy. :)

Hey while we are on the subject of shifters anyone have a good diagram of it? I can't seem to find one and something broke today. :(

how the f do you get to the shifter bushing. i cant really fit any tool up in there to unbolt it :( is it any easier with the engine out?

Ok, I just did mine yesterday, oh I spent waaay tooo much time under my car. Well for you Kiko, according to Haynes, the nut and bolt that holds the bushing on supposedly come off, but I could only get the nut off. So, since there was no space to take it off, I had to take the whole damn crossmember off.... maybe I didn't have to, but that's the only way I saw I could do it. Then I was able to pry it out with my tire changing pry tool. And it went it pretty easily too, just make sure you bolt it back up before you put the crossmember back on. And if you do take the crossmember off, I believe you have to support your engine (I used a jackstand with a piece of wood under the oilpan). Another reason why I decided to take the cross member off was to attempt to put in the ES motor mount insert... but it was having too many problems putting it back together so I gave up on the motor mount.

Ok, basically Kiko, you just need a 14mm (I think, maybe it's only 12mm) to un-screw the nut holding the bushing, then you might be able to just pry it out (if you don't have motor mount inserts), if not then take the crossmember off like I did... it's not that bad, just make sure you unscrew and take the bolt off the motor mount b/4 you unscre the crossmember completely... and I used another jack to help me put the crossmember back on...

Now if anybody can tell me I'm wrong, go ahead, I would also like to know... oh and I can see that the feeling is much more firm now, it was kinda weird at first, but I guess it's good :)

I've installed the bushing with the crossmember in placce, but it was tight. If you have the ES inserts, forget about it. You have to drop the crossmember. The is no room to get the old bushing out.

Nevermind I got a diagram from the dealer and ordered some parts. I don't know if this is what is broken but we shall find out.
Has anyone ever had to modify a shifter bushing to fit?

Not me, what's wrong with yours? Or what's wrong with the fitment of yours?
