i need to upgrade bulbs in my projectors. the question i have is, am I safe going with those companies that sell bulbs that are supposedly 55watts but light up like 100watts, or should I just spend more $ (which i don't have) and buy PIAA? I don't want to melt the housing if the things produce more heat, I want to be safe. Help from those of u who use projectors would be appreciated. thanx.

What from I read from the board is that the PIAA are the best bulbs for our cars. They won't melt the housings. If you get those other brands you might melt the housing and also might mess up your plugs for the bulbs. I had to replace both of my headlight plugs. And I believe that the PIAA's last longer too.

I am currently using PIAA H.I.D. H3-55w=85w output for low beams and H3-55w=100w for hight beams. No problems at all. I never really use high beams though. They low beams look like actual HID's.

I've been running the PIAA H3 55W bulbs in my projectors for over a year now and have not experienced any problems. Hoe this helps.

I have the catz in my projectors. I like them. I liked the PIAA HID H3 better but I had a short and did in both bulbs. Although these catz seem to give me more illumination :-)
By the way stay away from everything that is not 55 watts. Especially 100 watts unless you custom make a wiring set for it.

PIAA is the only way to go. I've tried APC and Hyper Industries and had horrible results with both. My APCs burned out in about 6 months. The Hyper Industries lasted 5 weeks, one went out. I got another pair and one exploded after 4 days. They suck ass. I've had a pair of regular bulbs from Wal-Mart and they haven't given me any problems at all. I'm done with wasting my money on fancy headlight bulbs.

I wouldn't go with anything rated higher than 65 watts (a *true* 65W that is). With the 80W bulbs, I have seen many of the nissan sockets melt where they connect to the bulb. This is most likely due to the smaller gauge wires used to run the headlights, and causes them to heat up and melt. I've seen this happen to quite a few Nissans in the area, including one of ours. I've been running the 65W bulbs with no problems. I do plan on getting some heavy-duty 9004 sockets/wires and running seperate relays for my bulbs and then going to an 85W bulb. Stay tuned.
