hey, first post here, naturally it's a question. i've got a 92 se-r, had it for a few weeks now. been noticing i'm getting iffy fuel mileage on my last few tanks. i'll pull like 22mpg in the city with the a/c on. i suppose that wouldn't be too bad, but i just filled up, and i'm at about 50 miles and the fuel level is a little under 3/4 full. not sure if it's the way the tank is designed or what not.

but as i parked in my driveway this evening, i got out and noticed a fuel smell, most prominent from the driver's wheel well, so i opened the hood, checking the obvious, a loose supply or return line, and nothing. i notice the charcoal canister is in that area as well...

for all i know, 22mpg, all city with the a/c on might not be that bad, first se-r. but i wanted to make sure. the fuel smell concerns me..any known problems relating to that? the car had a pretty full tune up recently, plugs/wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter, things like that... any help anyone could shed on the situation would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Was it a smell of raw fuel?

seeing how the fuel filter was done recently, that'd be the first thing i'd check. with the fuel filter being tucked in the drivers side corner of the enigine bay and all. it's held on with two hose clamps, make sure they're tight.

I'd also try checking the fuel filter first.

As far as the fuel level showing just below 3/4 and only going 50 miles, keep in mind that the fuel gauge has been known to be off a bit. Full does not show completely full on the gauge and empty actually goes below the E.

i had the a similar problem with my se-r a few weeks after i bought it. i drove it one day eventhough i couldnt find a leak and my car started sputtering and i notice my fuel gage go from full to about 3/4 in like 15 seconds. it turns out there was a crack in my fuel feed line that runs from under the fuel filter to a metal feed line near the driver side wheel. so check all the feed lines and make sure they arent soiled in gas. check those for leaks and since gas evaporates so fast do it when the car is on so there can be constant gas and you can catch the leak if there is one.
