I own a 93 classic with 90K miles. I am not sure whether the timing is advanced or not. I currently have a K&N Air Intake, Stillen Muffler, and Centerforce Daul Friction Clutch. I wanted to know what modifications would be best to get the most out of my car. I am about to redo shocks. Any suggestions without lowering the car? Pros, Cons, and prices of mods are appreciated. I also want to keep everything legal. One reason I want to do other mods is to get rid of the stillen muffler. The drone drives me batty. Anyway Thanx a lot.

I would put a header pipe on $400-500 and a greddy exhaust$400-500, and maybe some JWT cams$500-600 and a JWT computer$500-600, if you have the money, as for shocks I would go with the KYB agx and some eibach pro springs, those springs will lower your car about 1 1/4 but it will handle and ride better..........I hope this helps :)

PS. If you want a lot of power I would do a turbo...best bang for ya buck, thats what I did :)

Hook it up with a header. Let it breathe out.

The hell with the GREEDY - you can get a custom exhaust for $200 less that won't be as loud.

your sr20 wants, no, needs headers. you got good air intake and from the cat-back, good exhaust. but you have a bottleneck in the stock exhaust manifold and downpipe. cams will give you good gains (a ecu will only further those gains), but you'd still have the flow problem w/ the stock manifold & downpipe.

Are all of these parts street legal?

where do I get a custom exhaust?

street legal? mmmm that's a grey area. the headers have a "off road only" disclaimer but that's mainly to cover the companys' a$$. it's not like you're mounting a .50 caliber gun to your roof or anything. the chances of you being cited for these mods are extremely slim.

just about any muffler shop can bend an exhaust pipe to fit your car. slap on your preferred muffler of choice and viola!! you now have a custom exhaust. :)

I do not have to pass inspection again until 8/2003, but I want to know that I will. That is why I am curious.

Turbo Options have been thought about but I am weary of doing that to a motor with 90k on it.

Any input on that. What kind of costs can I expect from that?

A lot of what you spend on a turbo is how much power you are looking for, but you can spend anywhere from $3000- 10,000 to turbocharge your motor...........btw I spent like $5000 on my car.

First thing I would do before doing any more mods is a good, old-fashioned tune up. Ok, maybe you could get rid of that $tillen muffler first. ;) Get a timing light, set it to 17*, get a new dizzy, cap, rotor, plug wires, BKR6Es or the equivalent platinums, reground your MAF, and do all those "free" tricks.

As for shocks, since you don't want to lower the car, you could just go with KYB AGXs on stock springs. You can get those for $389 from a couple places. A search should help you out where to get them from. There's a spring deal going on right now (I believe it's *just* about to close) that has some nice springs that will drop the car less than an inch, but I'm not sure how much you want to improve your suspension. Really good tires would make a bigger improvement in handling anyways.

Headers are real popular around here, but get her optimized first before you dress her up. :)

most bang for you buck..hmm this is probally the most asked question aorund the se-r community or perhaps in any car performance community. I believe the most bang for you buck can be rated in different categorys. Most people ask it wondering if they spend 200 dollars on a mod what will give them the most performance in actuality a 200dollar mod just isnt goig to give you a lot of performance. this is what i say
Save for a nos setup which is by far the GREATEST bang for your buck, or continue to save for a turbo engine. You can spend about 3grand on boltons and not quite get the performance out of a 1400 dollar turbo engine and few bolt ons. IMHO that the most economic thing to do, but then you all motor gurus there is a new option for you guys, the VE :-D well thats all i got to say

the best bang for the buck custom exhaust option, IMHO, is to get a ghetto pacesetter catback exhaust and change the muffler. if you want it a bit quieter, drop a glasspack in. but from what i've experience and what i've read, as long as you have 2 1/4" piping or bigger, you are very likely to have that drone. bearable or not, it's a personal thing. the original pacesetter's exhaust drone was unbearable. my current setup of a glasspack and 2 1/4" striaght thru muffler started out equally unbearable in terms of the drone (primarily at 75mph), but since the install of my 91-93 intake cam, it's quieted down considerably. now, i'm not sure if it's b/c of the cam or not, but i can do 75mph and hear my radio at the same time! it's a thing of beauty!

btw, if you already have mandrel bent cat-back piping, you should just put on a new muffler and maybe replace the resonator with a glasspack?
